Pop Life. Should've been a video for this classic single, it would be remembered a lot more by casual audience if it had.

The Ladder. BIAS is a bit of a weak link on PR imo.

Many of them are very very close. However I perfer ATWIAD to PR.

Let's Go Crazy Special Edition (especially the breakdown)

Paisley Park Extended (phenomenal and otherworldly, the seagulls...)

Condition of the Heart (possibly one of his greatest compositions, to my ears)

Computer Blue Extended Version (Hallway Speech and guitar feedback inclusive)

Tambourine (especially the fanmade which brings the drums out even more)

When Doves Cry (I mean, c'mon...)

Pop Life Extended (again, phenomenal and otherworldly...especially the backing girls)

The Ladder (remember that Lovesexy rehearsal, P at the piano...)

Temptation (truly dig the bite of this rousing closer, but yes, Purple Rain should be the winner)

In spite of the above, I still think PURPLE RAIN is the better album, hands down. Go figure!

I dusted off ATWIAD and threw it in my car, driving around with it for a couple of weeks and it still sounds great after all of these years. The only ones that have not aged very well and were a huge buzzkill for me were the last two tracks. The Ladder and Temptation really kill the joy of it for me. 90's era cringeworthy. They feel completely out of place and seem like they are just clumsily tacked on. But amazingly other than those two tracks, the Album feels really fresh and modern.

Purple Rain vs The Temptation: Purple Rain BY FAR. Temptation is one of his weakest songs ever imo.

I like Purple Rain as an album more that ATWIAD as there is not a bad track...it STILL holds up SO well. ATWIAD is great up until the last two tracks where it totally loses steam.

Much like the Otter, I would probably choose more ATWIAD songs, but as an album, PR is a greater record.

Both great lps, but Purple rains strong tracks are simply masterpieces

Okay, I'll play:

"Let's Go Crazy" (If I let myself use the extended version and one of the unreleased "Around the World"'s, though, it would be closer--I really like the unreleased ATWIAD, and I would probably choose it over the album LGC).

"Paisley Park" (not even close)

"The Beautiful Ones" (I love "Condition of the Heart"--but I've gone on record as saying that TBO is my favorite Prince track)

"Raspberry Beret" (Extended versions would make this one closer, too--and it's very likely that I would choose the full "Computer Blue")

"Tamborine" (This one kind of surprises me. I hadn't ever thought of putting it up against "Darling Nikki" before, but "Tamborine" wins)

"When Doves Cry" (this is way one-sided)

"I Would Die 4 U" (too driving to resist--if it were as long as "Pop Life," it might lose. But it does just what it needs to, and then it's done)

"The Ladder" ("Baby I'm A Star" is functional, but not great--and goes on too long. "The Ladder" is just skewed enough to be classic)

"Purple Rain" (I almost said "Temptation"--I wanted to say "Temptation"--I could, I think, almost, say "Temptation." I mean, it's weird, it's off-kilter, it's runs the gamut of so much of what Prince is, and Prince hasn't ever tried to re-write it and only come up with something much weaker. But then, he has tried multiple times to re-write "Purple Rain" and he's only come up with things that were much weaker, and I guess that kind of shows how strong the first shot at writing it really was.

So--PR 5, ATWIAD 4. And 4 of PR's wins are close ones. As an album length work, though, I gotta go with PR by quite a bit.

Purple World Rain Day

1. Around the world in a day (Hard, both it and LGC are great openers, but ATWIAD is more adventorous)

2. Paisley Park (Easy, TMWU is the weakest track on PR)

3. Beautiful Ones (Although COH is great too)

4. Raspberry Beret (Another hard one, but RB is pretty much the first Prince song I liked ever)

5. Darling Nikki (By a long shot)

6. When Doves Cry (Again here by a long shot, America is a throw away next to Prince's greatest single ever)

7. Pop Life (Another brilliant jangly hit)

8. Baby I'm a star (Easy)

9. Purple Rain (The ultimate rocker versus a very avearge sex seduction suite.

So thats 4 ATWIAD tracks and 5 Purple Rain, Purple Rain wins by a narrow margin.

IMO Purple rain as an album is 100 times better than ATWIAD. I never liked ATWAID too much ..

Surprised that many choose America over WDC (and to a lesser extent that many prefer Computer Blue over Raspberry Beret)
