I'd buy downloads if they were lossless. Physical CD if that were the alternative to lossy tracks. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

If I was going to steal it, it WOULD be the physical CD - shoplifting is so much sexier than downloading.

i prefer a physical cd simply becuz (other than loving Prince's music) i'm a completist and all the artwork back to back is cool.
Come on, people. Pay for music.

Considering Prince's continued trend of releasing the absolute worst stuff in his canon...i'll pass. I will not spend another penny on music that doesn't come from the heart/soul. I'm not 12 anymore and I have come to appreciate and support artist's whom put forth a little effort into their art.Prince and his like have long been left on the curb when it comes to purchasing new music. ReMaster "Sign O' The Times" and I will buy 4 copies. I won't be rushing out with billfold in hand to purchase Breakfast Can Wait.

Dismiss and ignore new stuff and quadruple down on the old. Go buy 4 Legend of Zelda cartridges while youre at it.

Haven't dismissed nor ignored "the new stuff'.Heard the new stuff, sat with it awhile and have come to the conclusion that, for me,"the new stuff" sucks big donkey nuts, twice. The old stuff on the other hand resonates with me dearly and I would jump at the chance to purchase deluxe editions of said old stuff.

For some reason the other thread was locked, but so far only one person (CharlieRise) said, downloads are okay, I don't need CDs. So I guess it is safe to say there still is an market for albums on CD/LP.

Makes sense...delux ed. is different than remaster. I equated not spending another penny with not listening to it. Thats is dismissive. But still...quadruple down on something u know, rather than roll the dice on su mmin new...i unno..not for me. I mean its 88 cents for christssake. Ive soent more on a candybar.

Last time I've bought a physical CD was 2008 and that was because the album I wanted wasn't available in digital formats. Before that, we must go back to 2006 and honestly, I had already started to switch to digital as early as 2004. I had more than 600 CD's: I ripped them all and sold them all. So yeah I will DEFINITELY not get a physical version of Prince's next album. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I don't care about CD and would choose lossless download if possible. CD's just get lossless ripped to the NAS, MP3'ed for the phone and the CD goes in a box in the loft. Same with Blu-Rays and DVD's, I have no need for the physical. RIP

Have to say I completely agree, in spirit at least. I still buy physical releases but I have no interest in buying digital music that is the quality of the stuff he's been putting out the past couple of years. Extraloveable Reloaded, the 3rd Eye Girl website stuff - it's trash to me and like you say there's no heart and soul. It's empty and I will not support it.

I want lossless for posterity and so I can choose what format to convert them too - I actually listen to 256kpbs aac which is what I convert at - but I know in the future hard drive space won't be as big an issue as it is now, if at all what with cloud/server-side storage etc. . So I'm all for buying lossless because it gives me that choice and future-proofing. It's not just about sound quality, because yeah I can't tell the difference between FLAC and 256kpbs. . .

Just out of curiosity: what makes "Breakfast Can Wait" and "Extralovable RELOADED" heartless and soulless? 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Fair enough One of the rare times someone has the honesty to admit they can't hear the difference instead of saying they're the only ones with good ears and every one else is a dick A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

databank said:All u lossless-or-nothing guys may find this an interesting article: http://www.trustedreviews...good-to-me That was entirely unscientific and meaningless (and yet with some grain of truth?!). The fact is, CD sound reproduction was designed to fulfill everything the human ear can hear, there is no need for anything greater than 16-bit 44.1! Here's a properly considered and scientific paper that explains how: http://xiph.org/~xiphmont...young.html ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

That article says "It's true enough that a properly encoded Ogg file (or MP3, or AAC file) will be indistinguishable from the original at a moderate bitrate" (it then says that many MP3 are NOT properly encoded, I'll give u that ) A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

No!....not bought or used a cd in years.Funnily enough the Internet is far from dead but can be used to share music easily But i would like a full screen pdf of the track listings, lyrics and pics. Much like back in the day when you would study the album cover and inner sleeve as you listened to it for hours, enhancing the whole experience ala Old school
