Spoken poetry vs Rap If you've ever watched Russell Simmons' Poetry show and seen the poets, then seen a rapper come on you can tell the difference.
I'm listening to ONA Live Disc 1 right now...Muse to the Pharoh... Prince is definately a poet. I'm firmly planted in denial

actually...it's all about expression. So I disagree...have you seen Mos Def... I'm not bashin' a rapper for expressing his/her heart just because I may not like Rap as a genre of music.
Spoken word and rap are...siblings...cousins, brother and sister...one is parent to the other...they flow in the same direction...maybe to different beats... [This message was edited Thu Mar 13 17:11:01 PST 2003 by Rhondab]

I agree they are kin...but doesn't mean that a poet can rap or a rapper have the same vibe as a poet.
I also agree that they are both forms of expression. Different, not one better than the other...just different. I'm firmly planted in denial

I would take Tribe Called Quest rap over spoken word. I would take spoken word over eminem rap. [This message was edited Sat Mar 15 14:52:01 PST 2003 by Tom]
