Prince´s Vault: Imagine this...

OK, let´s play a game:

Imagine Prine gave you the key to his vault. Imagine that he let you choose songs for a new album which is net entitled "Crystal Ball 2". This album should have 15 Tracks at most, and it should really work as an album. Now, Prince tells you, that he will only permit you further access to the vault, if this album you put together goes to number 1 in the charts. Now, are you willing to do the work? My album would be the following:

Prince - Rebirth Of The Flesh

1. VaVoom
2. 18 & Over
3. Empty Room
4. However Much U Want
5. When I Lay My Hands On U
6. Moonbeam Levels
7. In All My Dreams
8. Rebirth Of The Flesh
9. Open Book
10. Schoolyard
11. Witness
12. The Grand Progression

First Single: "18 & Over" with video by David LaChapelle
Second Single: "Open Book" with video by Anton Cobjin
Third Single: "Rebirth Of The Flesh" with video by Chris Cunningham

Your Turn!

8. Rebirth of the Flesh

I'm sorry, but I think Prince would be perceived as even more of a laughingstock if 18 & Over were released as a single. The lyrics are too crude and the production has a "1995" played-out sound.

Open Book, Rebirth and dozens of others would be better singles IMHO.

Antoon, I'd replace numbers

4. Calhoun Square
7. Last Heart
13. Crucial

'cause they're all out there already through Crystal Ball 1.

If it was up to me, I'd include 'Big Booty Mama', it's as funky as can be!!

Now THAT would kick major (BIG) BOOTAY!

That's weird that you've even decided who will direct the videos...How about Steven Spielberg for "All My Dreams" if you're gonna get that far-out?

If you were gonna make CB 2, why would you include tracks that appeared on CB1?( Did you love it when "When 2 r in Love apperard on "Lovesexy" and the "Black Album", or something?)

Your first sentence said "imagine if PRINE gave you the keys to the vault"...? What is John Prine doing with a vault? Why are Prince's songs in it? The mystery of "Prine" deepens...

...> If Prince is going to ever release his vault stuff (which I seriously doubt):

a)- DO NOT call it "Crystal Ball 2,3,4,..."

b)-NO patchwork-quilt compilations! Every album should be from a specific era of recording! Artwork relevant to that era. Example: all "Lovesexy era-music" together, like "People Without, "The Line", or Revolution era music together: "Splash", "All My Dreams"..and related photography...

c) the problem with CB was the jarring non-cohesiveness of "Movie Star" butting against "Tell Me How U wanna B Done", and the like. It was like Prince tried to immitate a bootleg, instead of a fluid album. Unsatisfactory.

I don't care for your compilation, and hope Prince is more respectful to the vibe and "sound" of each era, IF he chooses to release vault stuff. I think the vault is losing it's potential for daylight with every passing year, or a proper avenue for release. He cannot afford to release it all, and record labels don't want to touch the guy. The Vault is becoming a pipe-dream.

01. The Rebirth Of The Flesh
02. Witness
03. Old Friends 4 Sale
04. All My Dreams
05. Can I Play With U?
06. Wonderful Ass
07. A Place In Heaven
08. Moviestar
09. Others Here With Us
10. The Ball
11. Neon Telephone
12. The Sex Of It
13. Large Room With No Light
14. Love Or Money
15. Eternity

No singles, no crystal ball II multi-era package. Just
give me these cuts and I will be happy camping for the
next 2 years.

I've included "Moviestar" again since I'd like the one
and only original version sans "JOTY" in BG intro. Plus
it's such a funny, cool and great song, it just would
deserve a place on yet another album.

Call it "The Ball version 0.1", kind of like a prequel.
