Which lines of We Are The World that were intended for Prince?

Anyone knows? Or which lines of the song that were intended for Prince in your mind? I think Prince read the lyrics, cringed, pulled off, and gave 4TTIYE as a nice gesture.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think he didn't feel comfortable sharing credit with most of the people involved, who were kind of doing music for the 40 years old housewife while he was doing something completely wild and original. C'mon: the same guy singing Darling Nikki and We Are The World? Gimme a break! + Prince has never been comfortable working with other people on projects he didn't control. I find this understandable, had I been invited I wouldn't have done it either lol

I agree more with your second argument than with the first: he's never comfortable working in projects he can't control. But I don't think he would have opposed the project for being conservative or not wild enough. By the time the "We Are The World" extravaganza took place, Prince was getting cleaner, much cleaner than in the 1980-1982 albums. And, after all, he released "4 The Tears In Your Eyes", a song that matches very well the tone of "We Are The World".

I'm glad that Prince didn't participate. IMO, it was seriously sappy, PC crap. I get so tired of all the PC crap that goes on all the time and most of it doesn't make a hill of beans worth of difference. People seem to have this delusion that if we all sit around holding hands & singing Kumbaya, that'll change the world. Fat chance. Just sayin'. rolleyes

I'm guessing it was "But if you just believe, there's no way we can fall," as sung by Huey Lewis. It would've come right after MJ's part, which would've been shrewd, and right before Cyndi, another one of the most popular and current artists of the time.

"That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

You are correct nod Prince was given the lines that Huey Lewis wound up singing

Maybe he pulled out because he didn't want to be in the same room with Huey Lewis?

Of all the words, these lines might suit Prince somewhat:

We can't go on pretending day by day
That someone, somehow will soon make a change
We are all a part of Gods great big family
And the truth, you know,
Love is all we need

Is everybody wet?

Since its release, "We Are the World" has raised over $63 million for humanitarian causes.Ninety percent of the money was pledged to African relief, both long and short term. The long term initiative included efforts in birth control and food production. The remaining 10 percent of funds was earmarked for domestic hunger and homeless programs in the US. From the African fund, over 70 recovery and development projects were launched in seven African nations. Such projects included aid in agriculture, fishing, water management, manufacturing and reforestation. Training programs were also developed in the African countries of Mozambique, Senegal, Chad, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Mali.

We Are The World -- as a song -- does not hold a candle to Do They Know It's Christmas? Both songs are ensembles for a cause, but the Band Aid is just so much better as a SONG. That one still gives me chills. WATW gives me "meh".

At that point, Huey Lewis had almost the same amount of hits as Prince. Obviously none of Huey Lewis' albums matched Purple Rain, but he was no slouch in '85. The theme song for Back To The Future (1985) is still played daily to this day.

Was Sheila E originally invited, maybe because of Lionel Ritchie?

Or did Prince offer her to represent Erotic City his protege?

And, is Africa any better off today? The same? Worse? That's where the rubber meets the road. Results! Unfortunately, constantly throwing money at things doesn't resolve problems. People would like to believe that it does but it doesn't. There are a lot of things that we as taxpayers pay for in this country (USA) that are ridiculous (criminal if it were anyone but the govenment doing it, for the gov't it's OK) and nothing changes because of the programs. In fact, many times problems get much worse. Haiti is still a TOTAL disaster and look at how many gazillions of dollars were sent for relief there. Keep in mind, corrupt governments also have a hand in all the money coming to them as well. If people think all the money is going to the people, I have some swamp land in Florida that I've love to sell ya.

I am sure that more than one person's life has been changed for the better (e.g.. they are still alive) by 'this pc crap' - maybe it is better that nothing is tried or done and let 'nature' take it's course ?

So, millions of dollars later and a few people's lives have changed? Not good results. Also, I want to know who those people are. Not just fantasize that they exist.

*

People love to throw money at things because it's "easy" and it makes them feel better. It's soothes their conscience and then they don't actually have to get their own hands dirty.

*

Read some articles on Haiti and what the situation is down there. It's tragic and pathetic after millions and millions have been poured into relief. It's just as bad (if not worse) than when the hurricane hit. So, should we just keep pouring more money into it?

*

Sorry, I'm a results oriented person. If throwing money at something isn't working, then more money being thrown at it isn't going to work either. Just sayin. Time to get a new plan.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but, WATW wasn't a "holiday" song and DTKICT is. Therefore, Do They Know...will continue to get airplay until the end of time and WATW is just an artifact of the 80s.

"We're all a part of God's great big family". . . .Really?

*

I'm curious where they came up with that line because scripturally, that's not true. Everyone isn't a part of God's family. I know it sounds all PC & catchy to sing that but it's not in the Bible.

*

Maybe they were singing about another god rather than the biblical one. Could very well be. shrug

I read it in a magazine, back in 1985.The plan was for Michaael Jackson and Prince to be standing together....Michael would sing his line ("when you're down and out, there seems no hope at all") then Prince would sing his line ("but if you just believe, there's no way we can fall")...then Cyndi Lauper comes in.....that's three of the hottest artists of 1984,one after the other.
