My Take On Prince & His Lawyers Okay I know we talk about Prince and his letigation damn near everyday and yes he takes it to the extreme all the time But to be honest it's something that I've always admired about Prince awaits bricks But yeah not to compare Prince and the gloved one again, but I've always said that if that superstar had sued more people like Prince he could've avoided alot of the things that lead to his downfall. See like it or not Prince's constant suits and threats against people has done one important thing-it's kept his life private. He has managed to stop people from infringing on his private life and to some extent using his work. Yes he takes it too far sometimes, but his efforts have kept people at a distance. What cha think?

I've always felt that's why he does it-sometimes he goes too far,but it's the only way for him to maintain privacy and not have things put out in the media the way they were for the other superstar

ya the FB thing is a bit over the top, if it is him cracking down on that, what a waste of $$.

Yeah that was really bizarre. A few years ago I had all kindsa Prince stuff on my FB then one day I just deleted the account-thank goodness I did. See things like that really go to far and serve Prince no purpose. If he wants people to forget about him then he's doing a good job. Some letigation is necessary, but some is just down right evil and makes you wonder about Prince sometimes.

He's fighting a good fight. Don't blame him one bit for standing up for his art and life.
From dancing babies to corporate giants, he gotta keep em in check. [Edited 9/7/13 12:41pm] Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I blame Prince for being greedy, he is a huge dickhead, for thinking first and almost of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$,
[Edited 9/7/13 17:27pm] Prince 4Ever.

i used to think it was all about the money, too. but now i'm thinking: how exactly does prince make money or stop from losing money by shutting down fansites and webpages or removing videos from youtube? it's all just free promotion. so in a logical universe, that promotion then would make him money. perhaps not a lot but it would at least be a net balance of something above a loss. . what seems to be going on is that he's just a complete control freak and wants only out there what he is feeling right now. that's probably why he never sells his own previous albums on his websites. he owns all the stuff post warners, doesn't he? so how easy would it be for him to put that in the retail section of either one of his sites through the years. yet "emancipation" will probably never get a re-release and neither will "the rainbow children" etc. . so he does want his image out there, but only the most current version and then only in an environment that he can contain and alter or do away with at the drop of a dime. that seems to be what's going on, at least imo. . if he were all about the money he could be releasing outtakes or concerts by the dozens and make some cash. especially from all those hundreds of concerts he's taped. they would in no way hinder the bartering chip of unreleased tracks and outtakes for a possible future set of remasters of his albums but fans would still eat them up. plus, his new music costs less than it does on itunes. . what strikes me as amusing about all this though, is that prince seems to want to distance himself very pointedly from people who create fansites or somehow give off a vibe that they are in the inner circle or represent him somehow by reporting on the latest news, having a clip or two up on their site or posting the latest pictures. probably because he's also kind of affraid that through these sites rumours and tales about him and his projects could start to spread that aren't actually true or perhaps even damaging. what i find funny about that is that prince's own websites and official, sanctioned reporters, as well as his own interviews are often more damaging or bizarre than anything a fanclub would come up with. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Instead of "Let's Go Crazy", Prince is Crazy! [Edited 9/7/13 22:24pm]

my take is that he's fighting a losing battle. he's wasting time & money & in the process coming off as a proper nutjob. anything that's out there has already been uploaded, downloaded, duplicated by all & sundry. not trying to be macbre, but honestly, what does he think will happen once he pops his clogs? why is he worrying about all the internet love?

Exactly, thats why "Prince is Crazy".

It's not a crime to be a nutjob. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Agreed. Fans don't have a right to post Prince's music to Youtube or Facebook, and I have always supported Prince in that regard. However it's extremely frustrating that Prince doesn't have all his stuff on Youtube and Itunes officially. For all intents and purposes his music doesn't exist for the majority of people under 30, particularly those under 20 years of age. My kids are MJ fans, El Debarge fans, Babyface fans, Cherelle, Janet Jackson fans etc all thanks to Youtube. But Prince is somone they have barely heard of and have no ability to really discover through what they consider traditional channels.

i don't think it's prince so much as his legal department.
many businesses and corporations have a legal department. it is a legal requirement that corporations and businesses perdorm due diligence with respect to protecting their rights.
IF prince and his legal team FAIL TO CHALLENGE non-approved, illegally uploaded bootlegs and other original material that prince created, THEN prince's copyright and trademark rights are compromised.

It's true that copyright owners who never enforce their rights in any whatsoever, take a risk of havinbg that used against them. But it doesn't makethem lose their copyright, nor is it necessary to do what Prince does to enforce.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Of course they don't because Prince is a Arsehole in this regard!
Furthermore, I wonder was anybody on youtube performing karaoke to any of Michaels stuff before he died and Did he act like a bytche like Prince and have them take them down???!!!

One of the things I admire about prince is he's not afraid to be unpleasing. He doesn't try to be lovely to everyone, indeed, sometimes it seems he's deliberatey trying to piss off people. It must be something I do too, because even when it goes against my personal desires (I'd like remasters too y'know)... it makes me smile. It's so him, you know. So I think there's just nothing to do with that attitude, it won't change.

Unpleasing = as the famous post and quote "Prince Hates his Fans"....

I agree. In fact, on some sites, once you register your trademark or copyright with that site, there is an automatic take down of potentially infringing items. The only way to protect these rights are to vigorously enforce them. Not sure if anyone saw the irony in Prince tweeting a link to a youtube video of a kid dancing to his music. I am sure his lawyers cringed.

I'm almost sure he did it on purpose....

It's a Napoleonic complex, he enjoys making people do things, especially if pointless and demeaning. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

It's like throwing confetti in a parade, and then wanting to keep track of everyt single bit of paper ...
Unfortunately, copyright law enables you to do that (and spoil the parade). It's good for money, bad for art.
