Has Prince ever cancelled a gig through illness? I was reading about how many dates were cancelled by Janet Jackson on her Rhythm Nation tour back in 1990, and realised that I've never heard of Prince cancelling a single one.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but our man seems to be very healthy.. Has he ever cancelled? "I'm much too hot to be cool"

And something with a raw voice around 1993? You can hear the rawness in the DNA show

I remember that he had a flu while the musicology tour and had to cancel some concerts. It happened at the same time as John Blackwells child died. They paused for one week. [Edited 9/23/13 11:17am]

There was some word from the venue that he was sick with strep throat and might have not performed in Shreveport, LA. back on the 1999 tour. But I have not found any additional evidence to back up this assertion. So, if there are any fans out there that heard about this or went to this show please let me know.

the most notable was the 26th june 2004 gig at rosemount, due to a sore throat which was rescheduled on 3rd august. many other shows have been cancelled, but none officially due to illness

Some winter dates on the 1979/1980 'Prince' tour were cancelled due to Prince having pneumonia.

I'm trying to remember why he cancelled the Hit 'N Run tour in 2000, after playing a handful of dates. I remember being really upset because I was living in Florida at the time and there were a handful of shows announced there. Of course, seeing footage of some of the shows years later I was pleased since this was back when he had that Geneva chick dancing and it was a weird greatest hits show that seemed like a Prince impersonator during karaoke night. Amazing to think that just a couple years later he would come to Florida with the One Nite Alone tour and literally blow my mind. What a killer tour that was!!
Does anyone remember why that 2000 Hit N' Run tour was cancelled early on? I'm thinking he had fallen onstage while sliding or something, but I might be remembering that incorrectly. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Hmm, I tried to do some googling and now I'm even more confused. I found a site (won't mention it here for obvious reasons) that lists the Hit 'N Run tour as taking place from November, 2000 through early May of 2001, and there are no dates listed in Florida.
However, the Prince: A Celebration tour, which is listed as running from June, 2001 through August, 2001, has a date listed at the Ice Palace Arena in Tampa (7/20/01). I may very well be wrong, but I *think* this is the show that I had heard about while I was living in Tampa, that was cancelled before the tickets went on sale. Does anyone know if this was the tour that ended up only happening in a few cities, rather than 25 or so that were originally announced? If this tour was cut short, does anyone know the reason?
If there was a concert in Tampa in July of 2001 while I was living there and I missed it then that's crazy, because I was a rabid member of the NPGMC, so I'm thinking this never happened. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Thanks for all the information. Considering how much dancing Prince has done, he's been remarkably injury free!
Theblueangel - dates sure can get misreported. I have a bootleg that I was burning to my PC from July 21st 2001, the Hit 'N Run tour in Columbus Ohio at an amphitheatre.
I see from the Princepedia that he never did such a gig, but on the 21st June he was at the Nationwide Arena! I suppose I'll trust the Princepedia on this one.. "I'm much too hot to be cool"

I remember hearing that also. I remember coming back to school the following Monday and asking if anyone went to the concert. Several people (that were older than I was) said that it was canceled because of strep throat. One person told me that he walked out and apologized on stage. Like you said, I've never seen or heard any confirmation from any official sources, though.

I also felt the concert was cancelled in consideration, respect, love and for the comfort of John Blackwell. We were in Chicago for the weekend and attended a fabulous concert the night before and on the way to the 2nd night's performance from our hotel we were informed basically by word of mouth. I saw John B. a short time later at BB King's New York City and I was blessed to personally extend to him my hearfelt condolences about his beloved daughter. He was visably shaken, touched my shoulder, thanked me and showed me a tatoo of his daughter on his arm and allowed me to take a picture. I was moved and honored. Prince sound crystal clear to me the previous night. Sometimes you have to make room for healing...and love. Was it good 4 U?

^^ daPrettyman, thanks for your reply. (check your orgnotes please)
Is there anyone else out there that might have more information about this cancelled 1999 tour show in Shreveport ? Any other eyewitnesses that might have gone to the show that Prince told the audience he was sick??

There was speculation that Prince cut the 2001Celebreation tour short because he didn't want to give the impression that the tour was in support of the WB release "The Very Best Of Prince", but it was later stated that Prince got news that his father was very ill and didn't have much longer to live, and he cut the tour short to be with his father during his final days. John L. Nelson died nearly two months after the tour was canceled. [Edited 9/28/13 6:52am]

Regarding the 2000 Hit N Run tour: I remember reading something on the official site that Prince was injured by Kip Blackshire during a rehearsal. He hasn't done the splits since then, either. I'm not sure if this is why the tour was canceled but it wouldn't surprise me.

So Kip actually physically assaulted Prince and stopped him from ever doing the splits again?
