STFU, Schlomo! They are amongst my favourite P songs, especially Something Funky (This House Comes) and The Flow (the original), not to mention Schoolyard. These are the kinds of outtakes that I would love in pristine quality. I can only imagine if Diamonds and Pearls, the album, had been expanded to a larger concept, to include the superlative songs from his catalogue at the time, such as Allegiance, Open Book and I Hear Your Voice.

And on that note, I like PrinceVault's description of Player, recorded in 1991: "The track is a mellow track with some falsetto vocals and rap-spoken vocals, in which the narrator suggests that he is tired of being a player and want to "check out the settling down". The track remains unreleased."

I like a lot of stuff from that era. Player is nice. I love Get Blue and Allegiance. Hell, I even like Schoolyard, which seems to get dissed a lot. It's the Tony M. collabs that I still refuse to accept.

The MUSICALITY of GoldNigga is actually quite hot. I hear you regarding Tony, but I actually kinda dig it in a train crash way, in a similar vein to why I thoroughly enjoy the T.C. Ellis album. It's almost so bad, but produced and mixed in a way that "they" believe it's good, that it actually becomes good, to my ears. There's nothing quite like 'belief' when someone is doing something; and I think P and Tony fully believed in their work together. It was in your face. And it was ballsy. And although it was almost entirely devoid of hip-hop authenticity, that did not matter to them. They believed in their schtick. And I dig that. Cue the music: Call The Law. Now, Schlomo, you tell me, is that guitar solo not off the chain? The beat, the rap, the bravaddo, the guitar solo, it all works. But it's for a very niche audience. Hardcore Prince fans ONLY.

I will fully admit that the music was fantastic then. I like a lot of the Goldnigga stuff. It's specifically Tony's contributions that irk me. And Tony's influence on Prince. They certainly were "ballsy" and "in your face," as you say, for better or worse.

It's just hard for me to imagine the head space that Prince was in to think a song like Jughead was album worthy. Or even reel-to-reel worthy.
