What Kind of Video Would You Want For Alphabet Street?

Of course we all know the video is cheesy we don't have to beat a dead horse on that one.

But what kind of video or video director would you have liked to see for Alphabet Street?

I would have loved to see a Peter Gabriel or a Mark Knopfler directed music video! something very outlandish and epic to go witht he scope of the song or album.

In fact all the videos from the album i wish they had great videos to go with the grand scope of the album smile

So what kind of video would have liked to have seen for Alphabet Street? or a specific director?

back in the day i thought this video was the business!

don't remember watching it & thinking it was cheesy, i'd seen nothing else like it & actually thought it was the height of new technology lol it worked imo. Loved the song, daddy's white thunderbird, the splits, she'll want me from my head to my feet! visual, colourful, unique & people would pay a lot of money to achieve that kind of vintage effect thesedays

Back in '88 - I saw it on MTV on my little 14 inches tv screen back in the spring / early summer 1988, I was soo excited with the new Lovesexy look, later the Glam Slam video followed.. I was really excited back then, and those 12 inch vinyls/ CD singles.. it was AMAZING.

the Lovesexy album is excellent!! - however, maybe a little too much complexity for some (maybe the americans, and the newbies too?)... razz

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeeaaaah....!!

Raspberry Beret, Kiss, and then Alphabet Street.... a string of great music videos... heart heart cool

That video gets criticized alot on this site, but I have always liked it lol It reminds me of the music videos from the early 80s,when artists had very small budgets to work with. But I like the simplicity of it.Alot of vivid colors and playfulness.

I've always liked the video despite the cheapness. Back in the day, we used to take drops of acid and watch this. This is not music this is a trip indeed.

We experienced the same...it was a very exciting time, Lovesexy must have been a year in my cdplayer, i heard it so many times. Also the Glam Slam video was amazing and than, on top of it all, he released the 10 minutes I wish U heaven. worship

I'll never stop stickin' up for this video. I think it's exactly what it's supposed to be, and it's pure fun. I mean, wasn't it intended to look sort of like a segment on Sesame St.?

My preference is: no video.

I like associating a song with something from my own life instead of some director's vision on what the song means.

I'm all for performance videos (live videos), but as far as someone else's interpretation of a song? Nah. Memories are best.

The memory of Lovesexy will never leave me. Buzzing around London, bumping into polka dot clad Prince fans everywhere.
Then the greatest gig of all time, walking out of Wembley dumbfounded, our heads a mass of swirling colours and endorphins.
We thought we were the coolest kids around...and we were.

I love the vibrant colours of Alphabet St and it's simplicity. But then again I love SOTT video too. They both let the song dominate.
don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

I liked the video. This is probably what Prince's dreams looked like. lol It also had that cheap, gritty, in the basement look of the early 80s music videos. It definitely stood out from the typical over produced videos of 1988.

A longer one please.

I dig the video just the way it is visually, but lengthwise it's too short and over too quickly. I want it as long as the album or 12" extended version please

Well that appears to be bollocks just like this thread, what a pointless discussion.

if it were up to me, i'd do it in black and white, fred astaire style with a darkened street, plenty of those old gaslights and choregraphed moves centered around a long walk down the block, passing street signs along the way.

I always kind of assumed that was the point -that it was raw and stripped. I really liked it.
