Prince and the Revolution Anotherloverholenyohead 12" single extended version

I was just at the used record store listening to this 12" and thought to myself that this classic has got to be the funkiest thing that Prince did in the mid 80s especially with the bass being at the forefront and wondering if Prince did any other unreleased songs in this mode with the bass at the forefront and the bass playing is all Larry Graham all the way especially with the thumping and plucking going throughout the song and this type of funk was universal and I even had the clerk hold it behind the counter for me...I love this 12" for that extended version alone and especially the album cover with Prince in a black tuxedo......All the way vogue.......Now, thats some FUNK for you.....

Eye feel its odd! That Prince never puts this song in his tour list. Its one of his funkiest. But he hasn't done it live in over 20 years!!!

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

He played it during the 3121 residency in Las Vegas in 2006.

Oh! Did he? He didn't play it the times Eye was in attendance!

He has played it numerous times since 2006, including at several of the Welcome 2 America shows. It's been the rock version, but it still kicks total ass. I'd love to have him play the 12 inch version, and have it groove on for 15 minutes, but despite all the surprises Prince has pulled with setlists lately, doubt that would happen.

I was never a fan of the extended version. I feel the album version works better.

he did it live at the first show that I attended in Atlanta,Georgia at the tabernacle in March of 2006 when he was showcasing tamar davis which was really good along with the rock version of partyman.

What? there is too much funk in the extended version compared to the album version and when I heard it over the stereo, the bass playing just ate up the entire song and thats why I went back yesterday and bought the 12" and I am very happy that I finally have it especially the album cover.

Classic org. Never mind the music, so long as you have a photograph to drool over, all is well.

I dont drool over album covers. I just thought that Prince looked very cool in that tuxedo and where did that remark of drooling come from? that has nothing to do with this thread.....

What's wronng with that? the OP obviously loves the song, and has been talking only about the music from the start of the thread.

.

Plus in this day in age when all you have to do is download a song, having those album/single covers with the credits lyrics and such was always a bonus

The OP story remids me of when I got the Mountains 12" on the release day from the Mom&Pop record store in my town. I was totally psyched for the new 12" (especially after the Kiss 12" & ATWIAD 12inches). There was no one else in the store, so while I was waiting for my ride to pick me up (I was only 14 y/o) I asked if they would spin the record for me on the store stereo. Right off the bat it was different from the album version with Prince's dance floor order! While it played the owner of the store was asking me what I liked about Prince and I remember saying something like every time he comes out with an album it sounds different than the last.

He played Anotherlover and Mountains at the show at Paisely Park in 2009. People went nuts. Didn't do much for me though, without Wendy, Lisa, and Susannah.

Do you know if he's actually done any real singing on Mountains? At all the shows I saw him sing it, the music was fine, but the girls were doing 90% of the singing. Prince was whisper-singing in the mic, and I couldn't hear him. A shame...since it's a great song.
