Why hasn't he been picked for the series already?

I think American Masters' Pearl Jam is the best of the series and I thought wouldn't it be nice if American Masters did Prince and gave similar treatment to it (featuring rare, never-before-seen footages, new interviews, and new, unrehashed info).

How likely/unlikely is that?

But wait, even Stevie is not on it yet? What's wrong with these guys?

There is nothing wrong with these guys. If Prince doesn't want PBS to make it then it won't get made. He has to give them permission to use his likeness, music, etc. If Prince wanted something like this out, he would want total control and ownership meaning that he would start it himself and never finish it.

Another facing facts moment - American Masters is about a helluva lot more than music and there are a lot of people outside the realm of music that deserve this treatment waaay more than Prince and Stevie Wonder.

Why don't you call Prince and tell him you're doing a documentary about him and see what happens. Lawyers, for one. It isn't the fault of PBS. Not by a longshot. That's on par with all the idiots in the reviews sections of iTunes complaining that iTunes needs to get its shit together cuz a certain albm doesn't have all the tracks OR your favorite track is "album only". That isn't iTunes, childern. That's the artist telling iTunes what they can and cannot do. If an "artist" wants to get paid and their album has only one hit, making it album only will force people to buy the whole thing thereby compensating for the small handfull who don't buy it. Selloing something is about making money. If it were about art you wouldn't get charged as much for it as the artist is only needed to break even.

I'm sure PBS could make something as is their right with a public figure, but they wouldn't be allowed to use his music, videos, live footage, etc. All the great stuff you see on other American Masters shows wouldn't be there because Prince wouldn't allow. PBS wouldn't put up with his silly shit, either. Let's say they get permission to do the project. Prince will decide when they're half-way through that he suddenly doesn't want to do it and PBS will have wasted all that time and money for nothing.

In short, it will never happen bcause prince wakes up in a new world every day.

You have some valid points. However, for a show of PBS' American Masters calibre, I think Prince would want to cooperate, although maybe there could be some usual complications or technicalities, legal or otherwise when it comes to Prince's back catalogue especially.

As to Stevie, I still think it's wrong that Stevie is still left out to date. I don't think they would have "Prince problems" with Stevie.

I haven't seen American Masters but I'm confidant that it is broadcast here in Toronto, Canada. Anyhow, I am wondering how a band as limited and generic could be considered an American Master.

I'm sorry - Pearl Jam neither has the songs (nevermind albums) or live presentation of their music to even be considered one of the great rock and roll acts of American music.

Glad you brought it up. Exactly my point. Pearl Jam yes, but no Stevie or Prince? That's wrong.

Regardless, I still think their treatment on PJ's episode makes it the best of the series.
