What's your opinion about it?

It's just a tribute to the memory of Miles. That's all.

I don't think so. It has a higher meaning! When did Miles pass away, 1991? Maybe the Question mark means that there are doubts that he has gone...

I don´t thinks so, it´s just a little silence for Miles to pay respect. And the ? is i think because Prince doesn´t believe in the "ilussion" that time is...but that´s my humble opinion.

I think it's fitting that silence would be used to pay respects to Miles Davis. He was always economical and poignant with his playing and used silence brilliantly.

Prince once quoted what Miles said to him once in an interview which were words to the effect of that it wasn't the notes you played that counted but the spaces inbetween and how you used them. [Forgive me if that rough quote is way off], i guess the silence on rave maybe attributed to that or as you've said just a silent tribute similar to the one on ONA piano cd.

I thought is was a great gesture. How many artists would do that? 4 seconds of silence on their CD... What a great thing to do.

What a great way to give the listener a moment to realize this album is off to a bad start

Do any of u know about the Composer, John Cage. He made the saying that silence is just as important, or even more, then the notes themselves. He first pointed it out, not saying he was the first to make it up.

But he did this with his composion, "4:33". He would go out on stage and sit at the piano and watch his watch. After 4:33 seconds, he would walk off. People didn't understand at first, but it was a very cool thing to do.

Also he was saying that since the definition of music is: Organized sound and silence, he wanted to state that the sounds of people coughing and wispering were also apart of his composition.

Sounds like he was just lazy!

I heard that Cage actually had music written down for "4:33" except he said that every note of it was silent!

I never understood why he didn't release an extended remix of this - it would have rocked.

That was nice, but I wonder why it was in the middle of the album, not in the beginning, or something like that, maybe it doesn't matter, it was done, no problem with it...
