Judging from the setlist the Paradiso gig wasn't unique, but so what? That's the whole point of touring: bring your music to people from all over the world. And what do you prefer: reading about & listening to the Paard van Troje bootleg or actually being there!? Prince concerts not unique? Good! The more people get to see him, the better! (Oh btw, in 2011 in the Melkweg he played What's My Name. Unique enough for ya?)
O snap, I heard that.. |

And @ thedance: have you been to Montreux? Because I went for the 3rd night and I thought it was great setlists, and also bootlegs, really don't capture the whole feeling of standing there.
All 3 Monteux gigs were horrible... The Paradiso gigs were merely OK at best...
Smukfest on the other hand... That one was pretty great... 3rdEyeGirl is still lackluster though...

I'm curious, when I see some1 say that 1 of Princes concerts was "horrible", what exactly are you referring to? thanks in advance. |

Prince really has stripped the uniqueness out of his stage. Whether it is in the name of "real music by real musicians" as Prince claims or saving money on big stage sets/crew since he doesn't have a label as critics have claimed, the heavenly, chaos that was once a Prince show is now lacking.

3rdEyeGirl has the personality of a high school garage band. When I saw them in Vegas this year, I more heard Prince than saw him the stage was so dark. Songs from the 3rdEyeGirl project were played, which was more shocking than it maybe should have been, but I really don't like most of these new songs so while I was happy to see a mix up in what was played, I had plenty of opportunities to make a bathroom run if I'd wanted to.

Prince's shows use to be a spectical. The music was life changing. The stage antics were mind-blowing. The set and the lighting took you to a place you'd not only never been before, but a place that you never knew existed. It was a party and church at the same time. There was an energy that was tangible, seriously, it was like the best sex ever in the history of not the world, the UNIVERSE and the afterglow lasted for WEEKS.

There was nothing like it.
hmmmm interesting post. I agree with you about those earlier concerts of Prince. I would be in awe or under a Prince cloud for weeks after. |

What´s up with the live shows these days?
Although Prince & 3rdeyegirl shows seem to be pretty energetic they arent unique anymore.
Looking at the setlists they are pretty predictale and almost the same every nite compared
to other tours like ONA, Musicology and 21 nights in London.
I'd tend to disagree with this assertion....he's generally playing half a dozen or so 'new' songs each night and some off the beaten track older stuff. I've not checked but I'd probably guess the 3EG shows have a repertoire of about 30/40 songs.
I also think the comparisons you offer are slightly flawed...the first leg of the ONA tour was pretty much the same set night to night and the Musicology tour was pretty static from show to show.
Most artists are going to play essentially the same set night to night on any given tour...that, in itself, doesn't make the performance any less artistically valid! Finally, a show isn't played 'on paper'...9 times out of 10, when Prince hits the stage, the songs come to life.

Totally pointless and unfounded criticism.
Do you really expect ANY artist to completely change up setlists every time they play in a different city?
When Prince plays multiple shows in a city, the setlists ARE changed up to a great extent. But even when multiple shows are played, the vast majority of the poeople at each show are at the ONLY Prince show they will attend.
Do you somehow think that every Prince show is made up of the exact same people?

This is totally true... Prince fans are the most spoiled people with unrealistic expectations. Michael Jackson arguably the Great ENTERTAINER (not Musician) had how many changes to his set list form year to year? Who has the Catalog of Prince? What band knows 60-80 songs? Are You people MAD? Excuse Me F' Crazy?!?!?!?

With the risk of being rude to you;
you sound like a grumpy old man to me.
What going on? You'r not happy?
Montreux 3rd night was the best Prince concert or really any concert I've ever been to. What Do you expect and what do you want for 1 1/2- 2 hours? There is a finite number of songs that can be played... |

and you know nothing with your old negative ASS posts.....thats why your thread for selling the tears in your eyes single got banned.....
I'm not negative, I only have a different opinion that's seemingly opposite of yours...
And just so you know; when you sell something in the "Marketplace" forum and that item gets sold you notify a mod so they can lock up the thread to keep the forum clean... I don't know where you got the idea the thread got "banned", and just for your info: threads don't get "banned", but you're a newbie here so I don't expect you to know anything around here...

And you probably prefer to think that you know better than us, because you are critical. And not being naive to be positive about these 3 girls and Prince
Good for you that you enjoyed the gigs, I wasn't dissapointed since the show went exactly as I expected... You assume too much...
I just have a different opinion on the gigs and had a better experience at, for example, Smukfest, but somehow you have failed to have read that and only read my so called "negative" posts... Sad...
