Has anyone seen/heard Prince performing The Most Beautiful Girl properly?

I've read the whole discussion here: http://prince.org/msg/7/380881

It's understandable that the song is difficult to pull off live. But has Prince ever at least once performed that song properly i.e. similar to the record? All of the live renditions I've heard/seen so far only show him lip-syncing or singing in a low register.

Is everybody wet?

Yep. He did it on the short European tour of 1995. Played live, no lip synching. What I remember most about it was his annoying habit of stopping the song halfway through to do some splits and poses just to get some extra applause.

I had to check a live recording (you made wonder about this!) and he didn't use his falsetto voice.

Yep, pretty sure he did during the Ultimate experience Gold tour 95. Most amazing thing that drove the crowd insanely wild was when he started 2 kiss & then undress & get it on with an invisible woman! It was totally hot & truely beautiful!! love

He did the song on he Hit and Run tours without any lip-syncing. I am not sure why he would have to lip sync to this song.

Did he sing it "properly" like in the record (falsetto)?

He did, on the World Music Awards in 94.

He did it on the 1994 Glam Slam shows

the Ultimate live experience tour '95

the paisley park shows '95

The gold experience tour '96

Jam of the year tour 96-early 98

never performed since (apart from the odd piano medley 20 second snippet)

all performed properly, usually sung in lower register though.

And it wasnt performed on the hit n run tour like someone said earlier...

I never liked how some artists snub certain of their biggest hits. Prince should still be performing this song. Same way how Madonna never performed two of her #1 hits on tour "This Used To Be My Playground" & "Take A Bow", even though the latter is one of her two songs to feature on three of her compilations.

I think the question is about him performing it in falsetto like on the record.

I can't recall any performance of it that he has done that way.

Why do you think it is challenging to pull of live?

Is there a particular reason why she doesn´t perform those songs live? I really like those songs.

On the jam of the year tour he definitely did it, and with falsetto vocals

(Sorry for the off topic!) TUTBMP seems to be disliked by her, it wasn't even on either of the hit compilations of the last decade, nor on her video clip collection DVDs. Supposedly in a radio interview when she was asked why she had not chosen the track for GHV2, she responded with an "ugh". As for TAB, it's reported to have been rehearsed for her 2004 tour but then scrapped because she wanted to avoid songs with the lyrics of "good-bye" in them. Maybe that's still the main reason, it could only work as a final song of a show but she prefers to close with a club banger that features a singalong. I'm still hoping TAB will be performed one day.

Prince should be doing this song live instead of random covers. On the 2011 show I saw if I recall well it was one of the three major hits he excluded (others being "Little Red Corvette" and "Diamonds & Pearls"). He doesn't have THAT many hits to ignore it!

^Nope, she never performed it. Its parent album Like A Prayer has been mistreated regarding her tours, she only did the 5 domestic singles from it, the other half of the record has been largely ignored and it's unlikely she would ever perform something else from it than "Like A Prayer" & "Express Yourself"... sad
