Pretty funny podcast! I agree with Niki that grown men should not be running over women to get to the front of the stage at any concert, however, once a ticket is bought and admittance to the venue is permitted its every man and woman for themselves. I don't condone it but understand it.

I had saved the podcast for my commute in to London this morning and thanks again guys (and girl) for another great review smile

You sound like you had a blast. I was at the second show, and though I struggle to match your enthusiasm and was left a little disappointed (I love horns, though not necessarily 'horn-versions' of all songs) it was a pretty good show.

Not complaining though, Niki wink just pointing out that it did not meet my expectations and most of the time Prince never has - he has always surprised and exceeded them. This time it wasn't entirely my cup of tea. Not holding Prince responsible for my expectations and that cup of tea smile

The 3rd show sounds amazing! I will listen to all three shows again while I am waiting for the DVD. That should give me some time.

I'm about 1/2 way through the show. Another great one guys!

Had to put it on pause to address Nikki's stance against those of us that prefer Prince the musician over Prince the bandleader.

While I agree that Prince is an excellent bandleader with control that rivals James Brown, and I agree that he usually surrounds himself with mostly excellent musicians who can hold their own and who rehearse everything to perfection, I still am of the opinion that a show where he is only a bandleader pales in comparison to a show where he is also the lead musician.

See, as we all know, an important element of Prince fandom is that he excells at so much that fans come to love different aspects and styles of his work. For me, his skills as a musician is at the top of my reasons for being the obsessed fanatic that I am. For me, when these skills are set aside to showcase his skills as a bandleader, I am disappointed.

Sure, I would rather see a Prince show where he is a bandleader only and not a musician than just about any other act that's touring. But, because I've been a Prince fan for 30 years, I'm not comparing his performances to other acts. I'm comparing them to his other performances. That said, in comparison to himself, Prince the bandleader is boring compared to Prince the musician.

In my not-so-humble opinion... wink

So please, Nikki, don't take it so personally that some of us are down on it. For sure, anyone who keeps going on an on about it in multiple posts over several threads needs to get a grip and realize that this particular show is not for them. However, those of us that can moderately express our opinion that these shows are weaker than those in which he picks up a guitar and/or sits at a piano have just as valid an opinion as you do with your take on the subject.

I hope this didn't come across as harsh. Not trying to flame. Just offering an opposing viewpoint...

cool

And now, back to the show...

biggrin

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but having been to the 3 Montreux show as a woman who pretty much was run over by men I very much agree with Nicky. It was insane and took away from a great experience.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

yeahthat

It was unbelievable. I've seen many dozens of different muscial acts of all kinds over the years and some of those (male) fans were among the worst-behaved I've encountered.

ETA: Just listened to the podcast and whole-heartedly agree with the podcast reviews! Especially Niki's point about the NPG shows. Thanks!

MC - don't think you'll ever have enough Prince! 5 years straight P-globetrekking is some record - I salute you! Glad you enjoyed the shows.

BUT - 30 mins late for the first show after using your celeb status to relieve Mobeen of his tix - now that's dawg!

Hard not to listen to the show without going green with envy - nevertheless nice to hear voices of people who did. Would love to see the 3rdEyeGirl setup. Saw a 'rock' aftershow at his O2 residency with just Prince + drums + bass and loved every second. MC - you must have a job paying GOOD money my man.

Again, great show. Will you be reviewing the 3rdeye output soon?

I always love listening to your podcasts with that mix of humour and serious discussion of music. This time, I didn't get much out of the podcast. Too much talk about yourselves and hardly any comments about the songs and the musicians. Are you guys getting jaded or are you self censoring a lot these days?

Great podcast. Based on the threads here i was under the impression prince had played the 3 worst shows of his life and it's good to hear how much everyone enjoyed it.

only most parts of the 2nd night were that bad (uninspired "hits" with too many horns, too much vocals by back singers, prince lazy, just talking through songs, didn't pick up an instrument, repeated songs from the 1st nignt etc.). 1st night was nice with a lot of songs rarely performed live, but everyone (me included) was disappointed by Prince nont playing any instrument. 3rd night was out of this world.

so how do you react to how the peach and black people describe the first night? They specifically say prince not playing an instrument wasn't a problem.

haven't listened to the podcast yet. I was quite disappointed but the set was really good and I could forgive him not playing instruments for 1 night (only 1 night though). My disappointment of the 1st night lies on the fact that 1) he didn't play an instrument 2) between Courtin Time and Xpectation, we lost like 20 minutes of concert just to see different horns solos...

Sounds fair. Impossible for someone who wasn't there to judge but I liked the positivity of the Peach and Black team.

I was surprised that Prince didn't play instruments the first 2 shows, especially the second night, but I have seen him do that a lot over the years, so it was okay for me.
