Evolution of the Blue Angel guitar title?

I was watching a recent History Channel doco' on how The Devil Got His Horns. One aspect dealt with the original artisitc invention of the now stereotypical imagery of the Devil in western society. It referenced the supposed first artistic appearance of the Devil, which was then depicted as simply another angel like figure dressed in blue. Blue being the representation of daker elements in such times. His loose title back then was "The Blue Angel"....which of course instantly caused me to think of he beautful sounds of the LoveSexy Cloud guitar. Do we know how Prince came up with the name for the Blue Angel??? Being he has been quoted as saying he feels "angry" when playing guitar, is there any relevance or relationship here?

This is interesting, never heard it before. Didn't he have a blue guitar with white lettering on it in the America video as well? It wasn't the blue cloud, but maybe it started him thinking about a unique new guitar to add to his collection of iconic axes with distinct personalities(ie the yellow strat with the leopard strap etc.).

Thought he played Wendy's guitar in the America video.

From memory story goes she was pissed off that he threw the guitar at end.

Must find where I saved the full video now..... Must get myself more organised !!

Has anybody else heard the bolded part? Does anyone have a source?

Not that it's a hanging offense or anything, but it might be fun for a while to act like this is a terrible trend in his personality, some sort of pathological need to borrow and throw people's guitars, or maybe other instruments--I'm pretty sure he's thrown tambourines. Were any of them borrowed?

I have not heard that, but I can say that Prince has been throwing his own guitars for many years... The first time I saw this was the INCREDIBLE throw he did with his Hohner Tele during the famous worldwide released Purple Rain tour concert in Syracuse. I still have that on VHS! I remember being FLOORED by that throw as a kid. I think it was during 'Computer Blue', right before the "Na-na-na-na-na... ".

Another Cyndi Lauper connection:

Is a huge Marlene Dietrich fan.

Her first band, Blue Angel, was named after the film "Die Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel)".

Prince is known for having a good knowledge/history of films.

Never heard that story, they both continued to play that guitar during the Parade tour (she's playing it on the Parade Birthday show), and she also played the paisley guitar too

The blue floral tele picured here is a custom job made by Roger Sadowsky

His Royal Badness has quite a few Hohner teles, all destinguishable from each other in detail and purpose. Hohner also supplied him with new examples during the "Purple rain" and "Parade" tours. All of them in that translucent ocher yellow with the leopard pickguard. http://www.photopix.ch/gu...e&Itemid=2

But Prince also owned a special one off.

Prince started using this guitar in 1980. Its unmistakeable funk rhythm sound has graced just about every Prince recording since. Amazing when you take into account the fact that this guitar was a cheap alternative to Fenders Telecaster model.

Prince fell in love with its quirky looks and honking funk tone and has never let it out of his sight for long. He has several of these guitars, most of which have had the necks replaced over the years due to the fact that he has worn them out!

Even some of the guitars with replaced necks are starting to look worn – a clear indication of just how much Prince loves these guitars.

In recent years Prince has changed the pickups in his Hohners, he now has Australian made "Kinman" pickups (these are noiseless pickups but are still passive and retain that vintage sound). But for a long, long time the pickups were standard. With the Hohner being a ‘cheap’ guitar, the pickups weren’t exactly quiet. Noisy pickups combined with Prince’s love of ‘Boss’ effects pedals made for a sound engineers nightmare !

I always thought it's called "the blue angel" because of the color of the guitar and the heavenly sound it makes hmmm
