Donna the closest to Prince's guitar style?

After hearing Donna throw out some amazing guitar solo's during Montreux, I was thinking that her technique and delivery sounds very similar to the masters own. There are some solo's that could pass as Princes own....take Housequake for example.

She does copy his style on certain tracks. Like on Guitar were she copies Prince's solo note for note.

The wooh is on the one!

Please! The versions of Bambi has no feeling in them. She's ok but she has no feeling or soul in her playing at all. Very mechanical.

I guess that from all the guitar players he played with she 'can' sound close to his style (maybe Dez did too?). Not sure whether that is good or bad.

Oh and Bambi sounds best with no feel to it, the song has a concept devoid of it anyway.

I feel pretty, that's enough

I agree with you, joyinrepetition. Mechanical technique and no feeling. There's more to it than JUST playing the notes.

The closet to prince was Miko,I read an interview with Sheila who heard him busking and he reminded her of prince,so she took him to prince.
Listen to his rhythm and timing. Also when he solos there are melodic and structured.

Donna is great and also young, what a learning curve for her,
Very nice to see prince help these musicians grow and let them play freely when called on.

Whenever I come On this site , I see a lot of negativity,
I always wonder what do these type of people want from prince?
He is 55, been there and done everything , he constantly changes.
Has incredible energy and positivity .
I wonder how many of you where the same 25 + years ago,
You must want to change to be happy and fufilled?

Dez sounded nothing like Prince and LRC was a fluke. Even that solo had to pieced together from several takes according to Dez himself. Any live stuff you hear of Dez from back in the day is pretty awful IMO.

yeahthat I agree...she's playing her parts but it's like she's not really "feeling" these songs. On Plectrum Electrum she's doing better...perhaps because it's her own song.

And Wendy was even worse. I agree with those that said that Miko was the best. Donna is alright for the 3rd Eye stuff. Mot so much for the NPG.

Wendy's guitar solos on the "Purple Rain" tour was absolutely horrid. Eye like her rhythm guitar playing on the Parade tour though. But Eye'm sure Prince taught her that. She is a lot better now. But Prince has moved on...

This is a joke I hope because Donna's style of playing is not at all similar to Prince's. In fact, Prince could be described as blues based while Donna plays more straight rock and roll. Her guitar style has never been heard on Prince's music which I'm particularly pleased about. Her rhythm style is rock based where someone like Wendy or Miko would have been funk based, and Levi would have been funk and jazz based. A good example of Donna's impact could be during She's Always In My Hair on this current tour as the band gets into the vamp. That riff that Donna plays is classic rock at its fullest - it absolutely reminds me of something The Tragically Hip (another Canadian band) would play!

Anyhow, Donna's chops are no where near up to chops with the guitar players Prince has had in the past - however, I'm sure her look is super important for the vibe Prince is creating! Ida is killing that bass though for sho!!!!

Nah. have seen/heard her play for the first time yesterday at Prince's his gig in Amsterdam, Paradiso. and i like the way she plays, maybe because i'm a big fan of rock music in general. it's hard, but yeah doesn't have the feel that Prince has in his playing, but as rock fan, i'm used to artists playing in that way, i like both.

it maybe different from each other, but i like it and it works well together with Prince i think.

I love 3rd Eye Girl. i like the young and fresh energy, which Prince seems to get too from them. might be not exact the same style of what a normally Prince band plays, but that's what i really like about it. more Rock Prince.
