No, he didn't. Saying one person works hard does not imply anything about anyone except the person being talked about. You inferred it. (You may want to look up the words "infer" and "imply" to learn the difference.) Again - reading comprehension.
When does school start again?
Can you comprehend fuck you. I made the inference for a good reason. We are only discussing Bruce and Prince. If you do not like my inference than do not bother with reading my comment. Now go eat your dinner because I sure your mom is calling from the basement.
Look at the noob with his undies in a twist.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

at the ridiculous comparisons between Bruce and Prince. That is and always will be subjective. I happen to agree with Rolling Stone's ranking of them; others do not. No one is going to convince anyone else they are wrong about how they feel on that one.
But what we all SHOULD be able to agree on is that there is no way Arcade Fire can be #4 RIGHT NOW when they haven't played a show in two years, and no one knows for sure when their next show might be.

OF course we can compare Bruce and Prince. They were biggest superstars at the same moment. Telecaster was their weapon of choice. Also Bruce and Prince are freat guitar players often overlooked by the general guitar lovers because of their pop phenomen [Edited 8/6/13 16:36pm]

Bruce have some incredably dull songs and peformances, especially when he plays folk music ebut you should check live versions of Prove It All Night, Because The Night and Streets Of Fire from 1978 , he us on fire there and Bruce is a great guitar player also ehe have amazing lead guitar sound

Yup. I saw him last summer for the seventh time, and it was the best show I've ever seen him do. Probably the best show I've ever seen in fact. Pure joy for nearly 4 hours.
The other thing with Bruce is you always know you're going to get a kickass show that runs 3 to 4 hours.
With Prince, it can just as easily be three hours - or half that. You might get amazing guitar solos - or Shelby yelling "Put your hands up!" ad nauseum.
The fact that a Prince show is a crapshoot is why he isn't the hands-down #1.
[Edited 8/1/13 8:42am]
Agreed. Bruce gives the crowd what they want, and he seems to give everything he has every time. Prince makes it look easy. More importantly, Bruce is still mainstream like Rolling Stone.
#2 is not too bad, anyway, when it's just another damn list! |

So.... Springsteen should not be number 1 on the list of greatest live performers right now because of a live show you saw on television in the 90's?

I saw Bruce Springsteen for the first time in Glasgow in June.
It was the most amazing gig I've ever witnessed.
He laid siege for 3 and a half hours.
He finished with an amazing version of Thunder Road that brought a tear to the eye.

Rolling Stone got the list right. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

again, they have never had a black artist at number 1 for anything unless it was hendrix and his career was over 40 years ago and Prince should have been on the list for greatest guitar players of all times before he got inducted into the rock hall of fame in 2004 but yet kurt cobain was on there at the very top and no showing of Prince on that list....come on now....

I agree, but trying to say which one is "better" is impossible. Art is subjective.
Great point about Springsteen's guitar playing. He is a phenomenal player, and gets a sound out of his Tele that is 100% distinctive. For instance, his solo on "Tunnel of Love" is just mind-blowing IMHO. |

Here are a bunch of non hendrix lists by Rolling Stone magazine with black artists at number 1. There's probably more but I got bored looking

i'm sure you'll be able to claim they were chosen for racist reasons though.

That's not at all what you said. You said the only black artist they've had at number 1 on one of their list was Jimi on the best guitarists list, and that this proved the editors are racist. Now that you've been shown otherwise, you're changing your tune?
What is it about this thread that is bringing out the dumbasses in full force? [Edited 8/7/13 14:38pm] |

Look, I don't want this to get moved to P&R, but you quite clearly said:

Tempest said:You asked me if I'd ever seen a live Springsteen show. My answer was no I haven't but I've seen him perform live on TV. He does absolutely nothing for me (performance wise, music wise or voice wise). If he floats your boat, that's fantastic. I wouldn't attend a show of his even if you paid me to. I couldn't sit through it because I don't like his music or his voice. He could be the greatest "performer" in the world (in the eyes of some) and I could care less. Listening to his strained voice and mediocre music is not my cup of tea REGARDLESS of what kind of a show he puts on. I simply don't care. I want to go see someone who's music I like & who's voice is pleasant to the ear. Genesia said: None of this has anything to do with what kind of show he puts on. [Edited 8/1/13 8:45am] I agree with Tempest!Maybe I would listen to Bruce for half an hour but I'm not interrested. And nobody would get me to a Dylan or Young concert either, for the same reason.
