I think we should stop this "big, bigger, biggest" way of thinking anyway. So what if acts don't sell out stadiums? What's the point of standing in a crowd of people so far from the stage that you end up watching the show on a screen after all? Give me the smaller venues any time!

This is exactly where I'm at - especially after seeing the first show at the United Center in Chicago last fall. I have accepted the fact that I am a small venue/aftershow kind of girl. I prefer the music he plays at those shows and I like being closer. I will probably never go to another large-venue Prince show.

And I would absolutely not go to see him with a bunch of scrubs on the bill. disbelief

Scrubs. I'm guessing NE means New Edition? New Edition were never ANYTHING, musically or otherwise. Calling Janet and TLC scrubs might be a stretch but
I can def see it that way, too. Freaking New Edition, though? That's not even music. They were a caricature of the Jackson 5's worst parts.

Y'know...I've only actually seen four large venue shows - tours for Purple Rain, Jam O the Year, Musicology, and Welcome to Chicago. (And I've never been in the front row.) Everything else has been small. Pretty sure I can stick to this.

In fact, I wish I hadn't gone to the Chicago show, at all (except for the aftershow on night 2). The two shows I saw at the Myth blew the United Center show out of the water.

6 million each show the Roling Stones? Most artist don't do 1 million on a tour. Listen 80s artists are less popular. Janet couldn't sell 20,000 arenas on her last touur. Even Michael went down. The Victory Tour was in sdtadiums, if u recall The Bad US Tour was in arenas. It's been 30 years sine Prince cane out and since The late 90s he's got virtually no play. So it's a good question to as if he can still sell arenas out. How many artists fron the 80s can still do big venues?Janet,Jodi Watley,Bobby Brown, Freddie Jackson,Patti LaBelle,Bobby Brown,Shalamar,The Deal, Keith Sweat? Even Diana Ross stopped her tour and she was like The Princess of Soul.

I would believe that Prince, Madonna, U2, and Bruce Springsteen are the last 4 from the 80's who can sell out arenas.

they earned $ 87.7 million for 18 concerts in the U.S. only.

as an example, one of the weekly boxscore

in the United States, Michael did not tour since 1988, and in the rest of the world average number of spectators at his concerts in the History-tour (his last) - was 52,000 people per show, and 4,200,000 for 82 show.

U2 from the 80's too! wink

can have a successful world tour of the old acts:
Rolling Stones, U2, Bruce, Madonna, Roger Waters, Prince, Bon Jovi, some huge rock bands, if they unite again (for example, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd), Tina Turner, I think...

Being that most of those artists couldn't fill an arena, do you think they should tour together. J and New Edition I know can't can't say the same for TLC and the artist. Together 2 to definetly all 4 of the could fill a 20,000 seat arena. But which combination would work Prince&Janet then TLC&New Edition would be a solo/group feel. Then Prince-New Edition and Janet-TLC would be a male/female thing. Togethr the set would be more ellaborate and they could afford great lighting.
Uh...take Prince out of the equation .

Prince is not as washed up as the other acts mentioned and not ready to do the old skool R&B legends tour - maybe instead of Prince on that list you could put Color Me Badd?

Color me Badd?? Are they even still together?? And didn't they only have that 1 hit? Don't think they would even work on an old skool R&B tour...

Both Elvis and The Beatles sold a billion. As of 2010 Michael not far from that. Now if you consider Mike was around less genrations than both those then yes he'd be the biggest entertainer of all time.Kind like Mariah. Not aware she's bigger than Madonna or even Whitney but she's been arouness time thant either. SO to be ind l for so few years and sell in their r.anks makes her bigger. You think it sounds funny but few old skool artists can sell big anymore. Even The Rolling tTones 2nd in ROck to The Beatles went from stadiums to arenas on this tour. Right off bat the only artists who could sell arenas who were in before 1990 are MJ,Elvis,Stones,Tina,New Kids,Depeche Mode,U2 and a few others. WHitney did around the world but for some reason did no american tour. Maybe not all music but black music I know. New Edition was about the biggest R&B act outside Mike,Prince and Janet and don't do over 10,000 these days. Strangely Sade and Rammstein can do arenas. That which is strange cause Sade I was never aware was that big and hasn't been played since the early 90s. As far Rammstein they never got major play in The US.

Where u been that you didn't know Sade was that big?? & correction, she is still making very good cds & getting airtime..... coffee have some? Gots ta wakey wakey eek

I haven't heard Sade on hit radio. But a stadium show could work. Just put the stage in the center have TV monitors and good sound. Also runway and B-stages. I knew she was big but not a sellout. I always thought New Edition was bigger. How can you doubt them.Top black acts of The 80sMichael JacksonJanetPrinceMadonna(Soul Sista}Tina TurnerWhitney HoustonGeorge Michael(Soul Brotha)New EditionLuther VandrossFreddie JacksonPatti LaBelleJody WatleyBobby BrownShalamarCameoAl B SureKeith SweatRick JamesLoose Endsetc. New Edition I put close to the top. Not in exact order. Take rap for instance. RUN DMC and LLcoolJ were the biggest rappers then. The did arenas...no they do clubs and theaters.

I mean a tour-Sure, George Michael and Janet can do arenas but not full scale and certainly not every year. Janet has had problems selling tickets here in Seattle and normally cancells her concert here because the "staging doesn't fit." Or as it is more commonly known as: We didn't sell enough tickets.

Now hold up, I understand that is your opinion, but I am giving NE their props..I have been a fan of theirs for awhile. Went to see them when they 1st came out. Their 1st album featuring Candy Girl was pretty good, & then when Johnny G joined, they took it to a whole other level! Have you not heard "Can you stand the rain". R&B Masterpiece imo.

This is exactly where I'm at - especially after seeing the first show at the United Center in Chicago last fall. I have accepted the fact that I am a small venue/aftershow kind of girl. I prefer the music he plays at those shows and I like being closer. I will probably never go to another large-venue Prince show.

And I would absolutely not go to see him with a bunch of scrubs on the bill. disbelief

Prince has no problem selling out any venue by himself. He has a problem distributing and selling new music. The guy needs a record label and a producer.

George Michael, hmmm interesting. I saw him in concert in 1992 I think it was, at Giants stadium. Great show, but I don't think he would fill any stadiums like that today. He was "hotter" back then.
