I thought he was trying to give "Planet Earth" that feel or impact of Purple Rain...?

Yes, and the context of it coming right after the crowd noise and energy of Everlasting Now gives it a similar intro.

It's not going to go down as anything like Purple Rain in terms of popularity or impact, but it does remind me of it, and I do like it quite a lot.

er

What's so special about Last December? I'd go for Colonized Mind:the guitar intro is more or less similar, it sums up Prince's way of thinking these days, it's got a guitar solo and he actually plays it live every now and then.

After "Last December", I thought about "Colonized Mind" too. Both are brilliant tunes, and both in a way similar to "Purple Rain".

Hope you like it, Astasheiks.

Maybe that's the case, but in my opinion the results are weaker than in "Last December" or "Colonized Mind". And I love Planet Earth (the album), but I don't think the title track is amongst the strongest songs on it.
