When I read that post on FB, I immediately thought of Tavis Smiley's interview with Prince and Prince was talking about criticism "I don't know if they think it won't get back to me or I don't care, but we were in love (agreement) then. we should be in love now. The world is a hard place as it is, we don't need to add to it". Much respect to Jill Jones but Stymie's above quote is on the money. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Tavis Smiley is the absolute last person I would want to write a book about Prince. Kiss-Ass moron. Him and his pet Cornell. [Edited 7/27/13 8:24am]

Prince said Questlove should write a book about me(Prince) = GOOD. Me, possible freudian?
Prince did't ask Dr Funkenberry to write book but Questlove = Excellent.
And Jill Jones's response (to the song "The Beautiful Ones" not being about Susannah) shows a lot of insight and is not hateful at all. - and who said it was hateful????
Discussing a person whom you knew 30 years ago on a panel to promote a pretentious book is silly - not really if the book is about events that happened 30 years ago. I think old band members that were around during those eras provides some insight. Spreecast is not much different. They talk some gossip and it is all about what is going on in Prince's life and they even talk with old crusty's. With spreecast I think we are trying to promote Dr. Funkenberry's blog??
Diagnosis: Get an Education and make 250K per year. Quit being Prince's clown. Hello?? Come again?? I am NOT Dr Funkenberry. I have quoted from his blog - see the quotation marks and the word EXCERPT in front of the quote? Reply#17 in this thread says something about claws of proteges coming out in reference to Jill Jones' comments on FB. Toure's book is not about events from 30 years ago. It tries to explain Prince's status as an icon, i.e. draws conclusions across his whole life/career from events and songs in the 1980's. Yes real life may influence song lyrics but unless the artist tells you what inspired a song, it is just speculation or hearsay. ...every night another symphony...

I know your are not Dr funkenberry! Speculation and hearsay, that's all a book will be unless Prince lays it all out there in his own words. I agree with you. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Of course it was. He comments on this now just shortly after jigging with their soundcloud account. This book shit all seems like a snub to Toure, same thing.
Prince says anything that suits him at the time.

I agree.I won't pay any money for ANY book that he writes, even if it is about Prince.

Prince says anything that suits him at the time. Susannah has always been of the opinion that 'Beautiful Ones' was not written about her. Does it really matter who it was written about? Enjoy it for what it is ... A GREAT song.

In all honestly, the era that they worked with Prince (the 80s) is the main era that readers are gonna be interested in.Their stories and insight is what's gonna sell the book.
"the public only heard their version of events.Prince doesn't talk"
Exactly, and since he refuses to talk and set the record straight,we only have their insight to go by.It's better than nothing at all.

I imagine that Prince's comment may have been inspired by Questlove's book Mo Meta Blues which was released last month. I'm only 1/3 or so into the book, but I could see where it's structure and content would appeal to Prince. The book emphasizes music influences, artists dealing with the music business, etc., but does not delve into sexual escapades, drugs, etc.
Nothing at all like Motley Crue's The Dirt.
By the way, i have only a passing interest in The Roots, and I'm still enjoying Questlove's book. I recommend it.

Well maybe I did not give Quest the benefit of the doubt. Certainly the man is smart and loves the subject matter. Being a musician himself doesn't hurt either.
