A peculiar thing about the Montrauoxgh gigs

I find it strange that at the Montrauoxgh gigs, Prince put some serious effort into adding to his usual repertoire of live songs, and yet for some reason, the response here appears to be lukewarm to hearing these more obscure tracks. It's kind of like OTFS i.e. "obscure track fatigue syndrome. As a hardcore group, it appears there are many who have grown tired of the latest incarnation of the hits live shows e.g. Welcome 2... etc. However, when he has sprung these Montrauoxgh shows on us, there is not a corresponding gleeful response. People only seem up in arms about the correct spelling of Montrauoxgh.

I would LOVE to see him perform for 3 hours doing only obscure songs. I would want the songs to be his own, but I would love to hear tunes he seldom, if ever, does live.

First of all, I love the "Montrauoxgh" joke. Awesome!

Second, you are exactly right. When Prince was doing his 21 Nights/Welcome to Wherever tours, there was a certain segment of vocal posters that just whined and whined and whined about the hits-laden setlists.

But now that Prince has broken out the rarities, are these same posters singing his praises?

LOL, are you kidding? Of course not!

Sadly, most of the more-active posters on this forum are here for no other reason than to bash Prince - no matter what he does.

Cue banner: It's a Montrauoxghpiece

On topic: I think the revival of older / more obscure tracks is usually welcomed. I suspect performance arrangements for some might be an issue.

I was surprised when reading some of the posts that people were saying Prince's voice is shot & he should stop doing live performances. Never thought I'd see that on Prince.org.

I prefer it if he played the whole Trauoxgh album in its entirety.

If I got to pick the entire setlist, and then he only sang and didn't play any instruments, I would still not be happy with the show.

Just sayin...

I wouldn't say it was shot, To be fair he has given a lot of the singing over to backing singers these last few years or he's singing alongside people. It's now very noticeable.

I am gleeful about it! Also surprised more people aren't, but maybe seeing it live just made it that much more glee-inspiring. Dunno, OP, but I agree with you.

Also, listen to the Breakdown or the end notes on Purple Rain from Montreux boots. The voice is not shot. Perhaps he's resting it more than in the past, but shot is not the word.

minus the stoopid cover tunes .. the setlist is really pretty good .. its just that the horns clutter it up sometimes .. the female singers take over for prince when it shoudl be prince singing sometimes .. prince does not play instruments and the band sounds clunky as a result of not having a strong leader to follow for the groove .. and the drummer is very weak .. and .. prince does dumb shit like purple rain with no guitar .. i made a great mix of the 3 shows with all the different styles interspersed instead of how he presented it .. so some of the guitar from night 3 is mixed with the horny stuff from the first 2 nights .. the bad songs and covers are gone .. even the sampler set is mixed in .. AND it's much more enjoyable this way .. prince all or nothing approach really kills some of the momentum his ideas gain .. eg. the truth or ona are both bland but the concept is good .. he could have mixed things up a bit more sonically .. so the same goes for these shows .. we dont need to hear cause and effect EVER AGAIN EVER!!! but its nice to have strong guitar songs in the set and not just the funk or horns or ballads .. prince segregated his styles on this show and it makes for lame setlists .. but a lot of the tunes themselves are very enjoyable .. i love hearing dark of4s extraloveable in the set .. the drummer is just not very good and that makes it hard too .. and there are too many horns that clutter ... a few would have had a much stronger impact .. typical prince overreaching thinking he can pull off more than he really can .. still a lot of great tunes in the setlist .. nice surprises

Oh just wanted to reiterate: the majority of the people at these shows were not native English speakers and not likely posting here. There was plenty of glee in the auditorium all 3 nights. I've never heard a concert crowd so loud as the one on night 3.

Prince shut them all up, with this new obscure playlist. They can't find anything to complain about. Except 4 saying his voice is shot. Which is so far from the truth. They tried at first 2 complain about him not playing any instruments also. But he brought back 3RD eye GIRL on that last night & killed it! giggle

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
