Plectrum Electrum=Gold Experience..experience?

Plectrum Electrum has been talked about, and hyped for months now. Weve gotten mysterious videos, random songs, album art, live performances etc... Still, no album. Could this end up being another gold experience.. Experience?
By the time gold experience was finally released, fans and even prince himself had lost interest. Will Plectrum Electrum suffer the same fate?

Hmm... Could you explain why it doesnt make sense?
Gold Experience took forever to be released, though it was promoted by prince. Now Plectrum is taking forever, though being promoted by prince.

And this analogy doesnt make sense?

I was interested at first big time but I lost interest fast by the poor shitty songs released. I have not even dowloaded the last 2 or 3 songs he put up. I have come to accept that new Prince music is not for my tastes. I still check in here from time to time though mainly for associated artists and just to see whats up. I was wit P since the beginning but he lost me too now I hate to say. I hope u all enjoy his new music though but I just have not felt him for a long time and have just given up

Compared to my normal pre album excitement, I have very little for this album. What I've heard does very little for me. All too grungy for my tastes.

In 1995 he was still tied to his WB contract that he wanted to get rid of, but couldn't. Gold came out a year too late. How long ago did he sign that Kobalt deal? A few weeks? That's not a long time to wait. Jony is right, it's a totally different situation

I see no label-battle.

I see no 1.5 years of duration yet.

I see no string of Park shows.

Just vagueness in the now w.r.t. plans, deals, etc.

Hmm... Could you explain why it doesnt make sense? Gold Experience took forever to be released, though it was promoted by prince. Now Plectrum is taking forever, though being promoted by prince. And this analogy doesnt make sense?

The Gold Experience was an album that was blocked by WB against Prince's wish: we were dying to hear it and everyone got frustrated for more than a year, + we knew exactly what was on it and all the songs were already circulating either studio or live. It was a very exciting time to be a Prince fans, no one knew what would happen next. Plectrum Electrum isn't out because... Prince didn't release it yet, not because some external power prevented him to do so, so if he gets bored with it lemme tell u that he just won't release it, period.

+ Plectrum Electrum is NOT taking forever, it's only been announced like what? 4 months ago? And now we took the habit of Prince announcing projects and cancelling them at the last minute, there's been at least half a dozen albums announced and scrapped since P left WB, so somehow no one is really frustrated, we're just waiting and we know that maybe it'll come and maybe it won't... + we actually don't have a clue of what's gonna be on this album. we don't even know if it's gonna be the garage-rock 3rdEyeGirl or the jazz-rock instrumental 3rdEyeGirl or a mix of both, save the title track we don't know a single song from the tracklist if even there's a tracklist at this point.

The only analogy I could see is the fact that with 3EG Prince is getting back to having a minimalist, underground approach to his music, which he did in 94 with the reduced NPG. But there's no possible analogy between the release history of TGE and PE.

On the other hand now I'm REALLY tired of waiting for Prince to release Madrid 2 Chicago rolleyes

^Gold was not blocked by WB against prince's wish. WB would have been perfectly happy 2 release it if prince had just handed over the master tapes as agreed in the deal
Apart from that, U're right.

I really wasnt talking every little detail of the gold era... Just the hype and wait.
Maybe it just seems like another gold experience situation because its been years since weve had a new album.

I don't think that comparision is close at all. I kinda look at "Plectrum Electrum" as a 3rd Eye Girl album and not a Prince album proper. So in other words an artist related album along the lines of The Family, Jill Jones and Madhouse. The rumor for the past few weeks( at least what Funkenberry states) is that it's mainly an instrumental album with only 2 vocal tracks (one with Prince's vocals and the second with Hannah's vocals). I'm a huge fan of his instrumental albums (except Kamasutra) but I'm not impressed with the instrumental tracks I've heard so far. Its just average noodling that really doesn't go anywhere. The song "Plectrum Electrum" is huge Led Zepplin rip. As for all the other tracks sold on the 3rd Eye Girl site, I find those all lackluster, derivitive and average. Very reminiscent of the NPGMC material. "Ain't Gon Miss U" is pretty juvenile while "Screwdriver" and "2Y2D" are just riffs on "Peach". "Fixurlifeup" could be interesting if it was beefed up with better lyrics in the verses. "L.O.L" could also be a good song if worked on a little more. "Breakfast Can Wait" is fun and "The Breakdown" is really good but thats about it. "Angel Wish" is a really cool title so I hope the music lives up to it. If any of this is an indication of what the new Prince album will sound like I'd rather see him just work on something else and sell the tracks individually. In other words, i'm not feeling any of this nor do I think that "Plectrum Electrum" is going to blow me away. This project is only anticipated by people on this site and to dedicated fans. Outside of that, no one really cares. The "Gold Experience" was Prince really trying to prove himself still relevant, as a creative force and hitmaker. If he had released that album( with the original tracklist) in 1994 instead "Come" it could of done as well as "Diamonds & Pearls" sales wise. "Acknowledge Me" could of been a big hit single. The quality of that album really shows that. Where as this material isn't close to being as good as that album or period was.

the gold experience was probably/is THE bravest project EVER by any major recording artist

the politics behind that is still far reaching today

it was an AMAZING time to witness

I'm not sure but u may be right, I just forgot the details, but still, WB declined to release the album whether in an absolute or under Prince's terms.

It was explained that the situation does not really look like a Gold Experience scenario.

Did you get that?
