those horns in the band are like "circus" music to me, they are ruin the pleasure Prince music is so much better without those horns, a saxophone here and there, ok that would be great, but now it's just a lot too much lately - it's a "Circus" in concert now: Prince 4Ever. | |

I don't like them either because they reflect Prince's old school approach even more.

must admit, am not digging the big band either. Party Up starts great and funky, but when the horns come in... somehow the funk is gone. But am not giving up yet, my ears needs adjustment I guess - been listening to rock music too much lately. | |

I've been listening to a bit of jazz, New Orleans and world music lately, so the hornz were good to my ears. Don't get me wrong, I would have preferred to be at the 09 gigs, but prince has so many styles that you have to be very lucky to go to a gig that is 100% to your taste. | |

For me, they simply add confusion to the songs. 1999 was completely ruined with the horns playing the groove. Just didn't dound right at all. What usually is a party anthem live was reduced to a empty horn mash up to my ears. | |

I´ve never really been a big fan of horns in Prince´s music and didn´t even like the big horn section in the early 90s (NPG Hornz) during the Act II tour but I do like how Eric Leeds contributed greatly to Prince´s sound. Too bad that they stopped working together a long time ago. The last time I saw Mr.Leeds play with Prince was at the 2002 Celebration at Paisley Park, and even then you could sense that there´s still a lot of tension between them. I have the utmost respect for Mr.Eric Leeds as a person and as a musician and I wish they could settle their differences one day because I do miss his very unique saxophone sound and his cool demeanour. Most other sax players Prince has worked with never left a big impression on me. They were great sax players (Maceo , Candy) but Eric Leeds and also Eddie Minninfield really added a lot to the Purple Sound. Maceo is of course a legend but I´d rather see him do his own thing than work with Prince. - The big horn section? Not my thing. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" | |

Partyman shamefully sounded like a hot mess, soulless. | |

I think the arrangements were excellent. That band could have been a little tighter (and probably needs to be for this type of music) The wooh is on the one! | |

Sure BigBand/Jazz is the past. This, if you are able to experience horns live they rule! I never really understood jazz until I started to go see it live. Sad its dead and a sub. I also like the stripped down feel of 3rdEyeGirl. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet? | |

You can't call something funky without horns tonight the stars are out
there's music in the air the sounds of joy and celebration are drowning out despair | |

like clumsy foreplay, it don't quite get ya going, just induces headache & frustration | |

It's also worth mentioning that in audience recorded bootlegs, the horns always sound louder than they would on a soundboard recording. I imagine it sounded better in person. . Night 1, you could barely hear the sample in Days Of Wild when it was crystal clear during the live stream.

Did you listen to the box set with most of the Indigo aftershows? If so: did that help? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. | |

I have the perfect solution to this problem:don't go 2 the concert! Personally, I love JB, Maceo, Sly, Clinton, so I guess I don't have to explain anything anymore. Prince+Larry+Maceo= | |

I like horns but not in Princes music.Prince sounds much better with synths. Real horns don 't suit his mudic that well. | |

Horns have their place in Prince's music and live shows. But generally, in the last 10 years or so, he's used them in the corniest, cheesiest way possible. Sometimes it works, but it's usually a mess and a lot of unnecessary clutter. Especially with the 20 (or whatever) piece band he's been using lately. | |

and you're a Prince fan why? | |

One of the funny things about Prince fans is that, after all of these years, many still have a less diverse music palette than their musical hero. ---
Prince basically made his career by breaking the mould and staying out of one category, yet some fans want him to stick to ONE or TWO styles, certain playlists, genres, etc.
---
Personally, I got used to Prince's horniness for horns after the horn onslaught of 1986/87. Any horn hangups I had after that got wiped out by "Sexy M.F."
---
Currently, Prince is letting us have cake and letting us eat it too. Two nights at Montreux 2013 were funked out horn/soul/big band shows, the 3rd night was straight up blistering (3rdeyegirl) guitar rock. Yet, people still find room to complain. [Edited 7/20/13 21:00pm] "New Power slide...." | |
