3EG ft. Prince Mixdown by Jamie Lewis I just received the Purple Music newsletter http://www.purplemusic.ch...index.html and it indicates that both Jamie Lewis and Ben Mühlethaler recently trekked 2 Paisley Park 2 mix/remix the new project. It'll be interesting 2 hear how they re-work 3EG's rock in2 house music... "purplelectricity whenever our bodies touch"

I never liked their remixes... Don't understand why Prince keeps working with them "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Doubt it'll be club mixes. Just looks like they're coming in for the final mix.

Questlove is quite annoying in his insistence to be Prince's biographer/servant/stalker instead of improving the trajectory of The Roots career as recording artists, however, I would rather hear Questlove remix those 3EG joints. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Hell no! Please leave mr Jamie do his stuff on other music. Please, please explain that releases via PM are possible without some 'additional artistical input' by people like Jamie. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Do you guys not know what a mixdown is?

The joys of purchasing a CD-single without 'house mixes' are so much greater. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

You're absolutely right. He should focus on The Roots, AND on remixing some of P's trax, but maybe not the 3EG IMHO?... Don't know though. Quest is good on funk I think.. Again, I could be wrong. ... And yeah someone here's right stating that Jamie's probably doing the mix-down. Let's hope so. Cause for one I'm not too crazy about the final mix of Fixurlifeup. It's a great tune, I love it! But the song feels too short for me, has too many breakdowns and intros outtros solos etc. I hope there's a longer album version. Means he is just making it sound nice without adding any new sounds to the recorded track..a bit like mastering....

So nobody answered this question, but for anyone who knows, please enlighten me/us: what, exactly, is a "mixdown"? Because I have no clue. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Sounds like getting all Parts of a track in the right levels when transferring to stereo.
MY guess is that these Guys Will be in the wall of sound corner. http://www.canadianmusica...xdown.html [Edited 7/10/13 23:23pm]

I prefer physical media or does itunes provide those yet?
Still an important moment to generally alter the sound of a record.I do hope mr P is present during this phase but I doubt it. We do not want walls of sound or brickwalled sound peaking all the time at 0dBFS. We like some openness, where we can hear the sustain without hyped treble. Yes, it is so hard to produce a good stereo record nowadays. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yes, it is so hard to produce a good stereo record nowadays. We've been getting that with Prince records for 15 years now. Might as well be Jamie Lewis doing it as anyone else. Besides, isn't that the mastering stage? And not the mix-down?

Please explain mastering versus mixdown. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

A mixdown is a two-track (or "stereo") version of a multitrack recording. Multitrack recordings as such aren't usually playable on anything else than on the original recording device (or a recording program, as is the case most often these days). I suspect that's not what they are referring to and the word is used somewhat incorrectly. They might have meant a "mixtape" - a yet another misnomer as what's being referred to as "mixtapes" aren't really distributed as tapes these days.

That's exactly what I'm assuming Jamie Lewis is coming in to do.
