Don't U think Prince needs a company like Warner Bros. to get his career on the right track again THIS is about Prince's career, the quality of his many recent albums, or the lack of quality so to speak:
Prince 4Ever. | |

What exactly is wrong with his career again.. Mf'ers would die to have his career right now.. I am trying to envsion what career you want him to have.. He seems to be doing perfectly fine to me. Hell, he is on the landng page of the Drudge Report today...

Exactly. I think some fans are in too deep thinking they know which way his career should go, when it's not theirs to decide.

No. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Trust me, we know you do, but does Prince aspire for the same? Perhaps, just perhaps, not as much as you, or we, might think.

I'm so tired of reading the same bullshit over and over again by people who have no clue about how the music industry works
Do these people think a good career is being on the top 40 and this only? Mass media breainwashing if u ask me. The fact that Prince's career is one of the brightest success in modern music history, in terms of both money and recognition, they can't see. The fact that millions of musician would sell their mom and dad for a 10th of the success Prince enjoys nowadays, including musicians signed on major labels, they can't see either. Why? Because to them the music industry is the Top 40 and the shit that plays on mainstream radios... Guess what guys: it AIN'T.

Oh and BTW it's the "Prince is over and done" thread of the week. I was thinking yesterday: already Thursday and it hasn't popped-up yet? How odd! I can't wait for next week's thread A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

oh btw, what and who has Warner's put on in recent years, their track record isn't nothing to scream about.. The biggest story in music the last couple of weeks is the Jay-Z bundle ans soundscan not counting. I could have sworn Prince did that shit almost 10 years ago and got them counted..He sucks at business though

You're getting two things mixed up, thedance: The fact that U & I are not impressed by his new music doesn't mean his career is going off-rail! He's very successful. He's got exactly what he wanted: musical freedom and millions of dollars. The price he had to pay for this is no longer being a top ten hit making artist. But really, who is at 55?

Prince's career is fine. He's been in the business for decades. Still packs arenas. Can get small gigs at the drop of a hat and is rich enough to make his whims a reality. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone or to validate his creer to a bunch of teenagers. He is Prince! Young artists are more in awe of being handed an award by him than recieving the award itself.
And it been about 2 to 3 weeks for this well thought out thread to manifest. Expect the next one late July/early August. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Best answer so far.. Prince 4Ever.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agreed. He moved beyond that need a long time ago.
I'd almost be horrified to see him in the charts or on some shit MTV-type station surrounded by people beneath him in terms of skill, artistry or longevity.

He is recognozed amonsgt the mainstream..He has a huge auduience...what part of his career currently am i missing...or should i say that "you are missing"?

I miss the middle man. Because I'm not 12, and when I want to hear new music by my favorite artist, I don't really want it to be a scavenger hunt every single time.

My name is Prince, I don't wanna be king tonight the stars are out

while i agree with alot of the people who say "it doesnt matter" ... i will also say that he runs the risk of being "non" relevant ...
I was watching the fireworks show last night ... and Cher was on ... i mean ... talk about someone with very lil talent ... but ... she looked great .. and what is she like 70? and still dancing around lip synchin ...
and Mariah . oh . gawd . is this what we have become .
the worst yet - was Usher - pretending now he is a fireworks expert ... having a few fun songs on the fireworks show and then ... ugh ... having 4 in a row by himself ... what a twit .
By the way - whatever happened to the Prince tribute show ... that was supposed to be on Tv ... with all the stars showing up .... like the MJ tribute thing that was on .... where michael sat up in a box like the king of Nimrod.... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

We don't know if Prince has the career he wants, or if it's been forced upon him by age, disputes and lower quality output.
On the one hand he has a huge ego and the adulation of the masses would possibly be pleasing to him. He was still obviously chasing mainstream success in 2000 but the music wasn't capable of delivering it.
On the other, for someone with such a chequered musical catalogue I'd say he's in a good place and he's able to create whatever he wants and command big ticket prices. The 'slave' has certainly been emancipated.
Alot of us would like to see Prince get a major hit again, but we don't need that to validate our own opinion of him or our fandom, which is where some of the desire comes from. We know what he's achieved in the past...it's way beyond any contemporary artists.
I'd love a spotlight to be shone on his talent and for every inferior artist and the general public to be made aware of his amazing legacy...a major hit would certainly give him that exposure and alot of younger people would research him as a result.
However, there's no 55 year old who's hitting the heights in the charts. Even if he released a song as good as 'Sign' let alone an album, would it gain much success? Would it even get anywhere without the corporate machine behind it?
Any frustration isn't just with the quality dip the last decade (at least), but his disrespect for his own legacy and getting his music into the digital domain. I hope things turn around but it's a bit late in the day! "I'm much too hot to be cool"

So true.
I'm just happy that he is still making music. The only thing that Prince might could use is a social media specialist or internet specialist that will show him how to make money in this marketplace and how to get exposure for his newer projects. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

In the glorious 1980s when Prince was at his most succesful, he had a manager that he respected by the name of Steve Fargnoli, so Imago has a point. Whether or not this Ramadan girl can do the same 4 him, we'll just have 2 wait & see.

I don't understand a thing of ur thinking...
Prince on Superbowl and on major TV shows isn't enough 4 u in terms of mainstream?
And anyway I don't understand this thing about ambition meaning satisfying the masses. This is insane: once he/she has secured his economical situation, an artist's only ambition should be to do what he/she like to do and/or to push his/her artistic limits, not to please anyone let alone the masses. Art is an end in itself.
An ambitious Prince to me is the Prince that dares releasing improvised intrumentals like he just did on 3rd Eye TV and Soundcloud. In terms of artistic creation, THIS is ambition.
What do u want him to do, dance crap like Madonna (and I love Madonna!)'s last album, that sounds like every other shit on the Top-40? Basically u defend a point of view that says that an artist, in order to be ambitious, should SACRIFICE HIS INTEGRITY to please the masses.
Such a vision of art stands against everything I believe in and, as an artist myself, really makes me sick. I think I'm gonna vomit now... [Edited 7/5/13 11:29am] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I never EVER want to see Prince doing music business with that Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Record OR Jay-Z and his Roc Nation crew.

I agree with you but let's be honest: Prince won't listen to any manager He's gonna contnue making his own decisions. If a manager challenges his decisions, they will be fired, lol.
