The purple house I know Prince is meant to have had a 'purple house' back in '84 but had it torn down for reasons unknown..
Considering how well Paisley Park is documented/photographed, I can't recall ever seeing this 'purple house' that the newpapers and fan books of the time commented on.
Was it really painted purple? Was it a myth? Does anyone have any pictures?? "I'm much too hot to be cool"

Yes, there really was a purple house. It was on Kiowa Trail in Chanhassen. Prince's father lived there (after Prince). It was torn down after he died. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

^ Not the house (lest there be any confusion). We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My first trip to Minneapolis I stalked the purple house! Went up to the gate, pushed the button and spoke to (I didn't realize it then) Prince's dad. I later found out Prince had moved. Sad that both houses no longer stand. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

How could you destroy such a gorgeous house, possibility change the colour on the outside, but it is so cool, like a dolls house?! You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

naffi- You do know that "doll house" is not his house right? It is seriously the purple "Golden Girls" rancher you see here....

if I remember correctly, my husband said, "Is this Prince's house?' and the man laughed and said, "naw, naw, naw..." laughing, something like that. I'm not SURE it was his dad but I think so.

Thanks for posting those pics Superfan. How intriguing that he had a custom gate with those SOTT symbols on them - that dates the decor and he never changed it to later name.
I'm surprised so little is known about this property, when so much of Paisley Park is documented. Every little snippet is valuable. I suppose PP is his only base now, as he seems to just rent out accommodation to live in these days. "I'm much too hot to be cool"

Wasn't the entire 1999 album recorded in its basement?

What year was this!?
I went in 1989 and as I approached the house I was kindly escorted back to my car by two lovely gentlemen in black suits.

Nope, missed Genesia's comment that it wasn't, but the purple rancher is rather hideous, especially when compared with the dolls house!! Callimnate-I think this was 2002 , could have been 2003. No one was around at all. No one. I do remember seeing heating and air vans across the street belonging to whomever lived there and I was struck by what a "normal" neighborhood this was. It was winter so no one was out. Anyway, we went back a year or so later and it had been torn down.

If I was rich I'd certainly blow a few million on a big purple mansion.
That dolls house looks like something out of a fantasy world though
