Peach and Black Smackdown: Vol 1

Just for a bit of fun.

I have belatedly discovered the P and B podcasts and I'm hooked! These guys don't take themselves too seriously, yet respect the art. Love the shows.

My issue? They score like bollocks wink

Sorry guys...... but.......how can you say that:

1. a Wendy and Lisa classice like "Resolution" is weaker than elevator type "Love like jazz", or that "A Million Days" is average or throwaway?

Get real guys!

You have go so hung up on musicianship, you have forgotten what good sounds like.

"The Continental" is up there with Lovesexy!

That's one of my few complaints -- sometimes they focus on the musicianship and ignore the lyrics completely and downplay the song structure, melody, beat, and message. But usually at least one P&B-er keeps it on point, tyhpicallly Playa or Toe Jam according to my tastes. But that's a small complaint. Show is great overall.

Thanks SquirrelMeat:)

That's why it's good having 4 of us, usually at least one of makes some sense in the overall scheme of things wink

and (like our show) the scores are just a bit of fun and not to be taken seriously, I think MC has even retired from scoring the last few album reviews..

I freely admit to ignoring lyrics at times, I'm probably more guilty than anyone in that regard !

and I love how this is only Smackdown Vol.1 smile

Re: Continental vs Lovesexy - that is a whole nother show right there ~~!!

Also discovered them recently, and hooked as hell.

Don't forget, different cultures different approaches, and probably different tastes.

Brits like a certain part of Prince, that Americans don't like that much. Europeans are quite different from Japanese when it comes to Prince.
Remember Lovesexy ? Europeans loved it. The USA didn't go for it. The Japanese went mental over it, etc...

That's one thing.
Second, when are you guys going to have girls in the show, or invite other fans for a special part of the show ... Could be fun.

Well, I still haven't gotten over the whole bucket fiasco in NYC. hmph! razz

I'm not sure if this happens ALL the time, but it's cool to be reminded of song rankings from the Greatest Prince Song survey results during individual album reviews. (I'm really nitpicking here!)

adicted too.

Captain has a small tendency to adjust his statement when he is interupted by the others.

He starts boldest and ends just bold lol

When they go offtopic and say, let's save this for another show you know it might take a while. They have so many too choose from.

yes these are great shows .. love all the detail and obsessive notes .. even if their crap detector is worse than prince own at times .. and yes .. sometimes they love a song for the beat and disregard how horrible the lyrics are .. but that is ok .. they always back up some of their wayward opinions with details reasons .. gotta respect that

Eating a wet turd is better than "Resolution" are you frickin taking the piss. lol

Hearing that someone likes resolution is the funniest admission since Captain gave mad props to "The Morning after"

I've only got onto the podcasts recently and they are addictive. I find myself pausing them to go and listen to each song after each review to hear the little things they've spotted. I've got a new found fondness for Lovesexy (which I always thought was over-rated) after their podcast

*

I've heard a brief mention of them seeing or meeting Prince in New York, what happened?

*

With regard to Resolution - got to agree with others that I think its awful, one of his worst

I listened to the Controversy podcast in my office this afternoon. the reminder of some of the lyrics had me stopping my work and laughing! "I'm so cold"......

As a Brit, nothing beats the Aussie humour.

But "Ronnie talks to Russia" as best track"? Insania!

They caught the facts on the first linn, power ballad and scratch guitar, but missed the biggy....The first album to drop falsetto. That change started the "big" years.

So cold...

Record scratch: wait, what?

What do you mean by "drop" falsetto?

On "Controversy", Prince stopped singing exclusively in falsetto and started using his tenor and even bass voice for his records subsequently.

Although of course he hadnt only sung in falsetto until then. Just as long as we're together, for example.

Come to think of it, that could be one reason why those first two albums never got spun that much (by me) too much falsetto ..

2 Kiwi orgers at each others throats, stop it, we need to remain unified.

Ever thought of us 3 starting a Kiwi Prince podcast. I will be the Captain. I think Resolution and Love like Jazz both suck, come on, much better songs on both albums.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yeah, Prince dropped a few lines of non falsetto previously, (Just as long, Party Up etc) but every track until the Controvery album were falsetto in nature. The Controversy album introduced the biggest change in his stongest instrument. His voice.Once he discovered the confidence in the lower range, it delivered a whole new dynamic to his recordings. Its interesting that the next album, 1999 actually had more lower range than falsetto, and by Purple Rain, there was only one falsetto track. Same for Around the world in a day.
