This should be interesting. Fans are fairly divided about the merits of this album and I am curious to know what the Peach and Blackers have to say about it.

Can't be as good as the 25th Anniversary Podcast produced last week by the EMF Radio people (Maceo, Silver-Tongue and SeeNote)
Check it out, you'll find it on the internet

Great show, as usual. I Was surpirsed at the uninimity of praise for this album. I think it is pretty solid, but I never think of it as and unquestiionable great alongs the lines of Sign, etc.
After you do the black album it would be neat to hear a good comparison of the two. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

What can I say, a superlative effort, they really went to town on it. Prince fans may be divided over the album, but these guys including the Captain just love it. Particularly Track 6 - Lovesexy. Its okay but they do get a bit carried away. The album has a lot of highlights, but its still in my second tier of albums. They did a good job trying to interpret each track though and I agree too, it was the last flash of his 80s brilliance, but it suffers from being overpoduced and some songs like Dance On and Postivity kind of wibble on a bit. The highlight for me is the tracks Anna stesia and When 2 R in Love even that track seems tacked on, its still a mind blowing song. Alphabet Street is realy fantastic too and the album is definitely better received today than it was back in 1988.
Overall its an 8.5 out of 10 for me, which is under the marks given by them. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

A superlative effort from the Peach and Black boys - how about having a super-clued up, female, Australian girl in your team - surely, there must be one? Anyway, I thought you absolutely NAILED your analysis of LS - spot on, incredibly detailed and humourous, as always. I also do not think they overlooked the spiritual overtones/undertones, but rather aptly placed the vibe in context, which is to say that it is entirely possible and plausible for the entire album to be appreciated without even a glimmer of one's own spirituality (or lack of) being antagonised or disrespected, as it would appear was the case for many with their experience of the heavy-handed The Rainbow Children. Well done, boys, and thank you.

Me too. Four Prince fans all agreeing on something? This must be a first!
I like Lovesexy okay, it is certainly better than Graffiti Bridge and Diamonds and Pearls, but I think it is a step down from the albums that preceded it.
I definitely can't complain about the enthusiasm and detail that the lads have for it. Great analysis and very in depth.
Oh, it may have been worth mentioning that the album was a bit of a bomb, at least in America.

I agree with rialb here; The preceeding albums were better although it's better than Graffiti Bridge. I think Diamonds and Pearls is beter than Lovesexy.
I have never understood the big praise this album gets from a lot of Prince fans. When it was released, most fans I know, were very disappointed with it.

interesting listening to the review....i have always thought lovesexy was a solid album but did not compare to his great albums like sign....after listening to the surprisingly positive reviews on the podcast...i may need to go and listen closely again to the album...i have always felt that prince "overproduced" this album...as good as the songs are...their is simply too much going on in the tracks and it kind of distracts you from the actual songs themselves...but maybe i misjudged it slightly..
anyway enjoyed listening to it boys and i hope captain gets the help he needs

I’ve always viewed this as mediocre to poor album and the point where his run of indisputably great records stopped cold, and I would have liked to have heard a dissenting opinion. I'm never out to put a damper on anyone else's enjoyment, and I always enjoy the show and this was no exception, but this is one record where it might have been fun to have a hater on board. Anyone else having difficulty accessing this podcast? Can't seem to get it to play on iPad podcast app or at the P & B website. Other podcasts are playing just fine. Can I kiss you there, down there where it counts?

I think the Peach&Blackteam did a wonderful job explaining why Lovesexy is a great album, possibly even Prince's best! The wooh is on the one!

Thanks guys! Great job. Like I said on FB:
This episode was fantastic. You did justice to this fantastic album. I laughed, learned and enjoyed your opinions. This album is great and maybe it has to be in my all time top 5 albums constantly after all. MPLSOUND

I was waiting for this podcast, seeing that it was the 25th anniversary of Lovesexy, now it is here. I love all of their reviews, although I don't agree with all of them, they are very insightful. This is one of my favorite Prince albums, and what a great review! Keep it up guys!

I loved what you guys said about the title track especially. . There were a few moments where I had to stop and go listen to the album because I was just like "Yeah!.... that bit, I need to hear it again now!" . . Edit: Have to give props to whoever praised Prince's vocal technique and work overall during W2RIL part - I totally agree Prince is not given enough credit for his vocal arrangements. . . Double edit: Also have to agree about Positivity and not being sure about it, only sometimes getting into it, but other times wishing it was another track closing the album (would really like The Line on there actually). . . . Which version? I really like the version that was recently made available. Would have been a great closing track! The wooh is on the one!

I like both, but I assume the more complete version is closer to what would have been released.
Not that I think The Line is an album closer per se, but Positivity is the weakest link on the LP for me.

Great freakin review. My tastes tend to fall in line with Toe Jam and Player, so it makes sense that Lovesexy is one of my favorites. And when Toe Jam revealed his other prince & non-prince 10 out of 10 albums, I gotta agree. And I too had to pull this album out and blast on the stereo and press pause on the review. Rain is wet, sugar is sweet ... Listen to me people, I gotta story to tell ... Everybody on the block said it's the best! "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"
