Getting more into Prince, Which albums should I get? Hello
So, I've always been a casual fan of Prince, but I've really gotten more into his work lately and I want to start getting more into his album oriented material. I would like some reccomendations on which albums to pick up next, so far I have: Prince, 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World in a Day, and Ultimate Prince.
I really want to get Controversy. I don't remember much on it but I do remember that my dad used to have it on cassette when I was a kid and I liked listening to it on my walkman.
Also, I was wondering if anyone might be able to answer this? My mom has claimed for years that she went to a Rick James concert where Prince played as the opening act or was at least supposed to. Would anyone happen to know which show this might have been and what tour? I don't know a year but I would imagine this would have been in Michigan.

Four words: Sign O' The Times. . Anyone who suggests otherwise is plain crazy. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Also, Is there any CD album or release that has the full extended mix of Erotic City on it? It is my favorite song and I'd like to have a physical copy of it.

I like most Prince CD's. Some take longer to grow on me ie.. Planet Earth & Rainbow Children because his style is so unpredictable from album to album. I think most Prince fans enjoy many types of music. I still do not dig PE much besides Somewhere Here On Earth. Rainbow Children however has really grown on me. I had a hard time with the weird voice interrupting the music and I think I wanted a commercial success at that point. I didn't like the idea of an "experimental" type album. Rainbow Children has been on my playlist lately. The instrumentation is incredible and shows off Prince's diversity and range in musicality...if that makes sense . Rainbow Children makes my list. The whole CD is nice. Anyway, here's my list. Keeping it at 5.1). Dirty Mind-Very raw. This is when Prince showed he was not afraid of creating his own

To hear some more recent material, Lotusflow3r is highly recommended as it varies from lots of guitar tracks to 80s style pop/funk [Edited 6/26/13 1:47am]

NouveauDance said: SOTT. Then everything else you don't have from 1978-1988. The correct answer. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Possessed: the Rise & Fall of Prince
.
.
. Then… BAMM! The lights went out, and you could make out 3 shadowy figures move onto the stage, and then stood with their backs to the audience. The rest of the band took their place, and all you could hear over the sound system was someone speaking in a low, sort of foreboding tone: “Charlotte, are you ready for me?” — Prince
. The drum roll hit, the stage lights came up, and Andre, Prince, and Dez turned and all charged about 4 or 5 steps toward the audience – and everybody freaked the Hell out! These guys looked scary as shit! The one in the middle (who I soon learned was Prince) had this spiky hairdo, full make-up, a pink leather motorcycle jacket, panties, black stockings, and pumps! The audience reaction was pure fright! Then Prince reached around to his back, pulled his guitar around to the front, then the whole band started jamming “Sexy Dancer”, and the crowd quickly got over their fright and started rocking to the music and jamming along - all hands were in the air. By the end of that first song, everybody was like: “Oh shit! This guy AIN’T playing!” The party was ON full blast!
. But what completely blew people away was when they played their encore: “I Wanna Be Your Lover”.
. Prince went mad, threw off that cool ass pink leather jacket, peeled off his stockings, threw them at the audience, and was running around the stage jamming to the beat with nothing but his guitar, bikini underwear, and high-heeled boots (with little stars on the side). And then once he was done jacking-off the microphone (as if he were giving it head - Prince was a real whore on stage back then), tossed his guitar to the side, reached his hand down into his panties to cover his dick, and pulled his panties all the way down to his knees, gyrating toward the audience with only his hand covering his dick! WTF!!! The audience was going crazy! At the end of his set, Prince said “Damn Charlotte, we’re gonna have to come back here again soon!”
. And that was it! I was a stoned-cold Prince fan! I started telling people about Prince the next day!

Well, Upon my quest to find a copy of Sign 'O' The Times I came to the realization that all of the stores I used to by music from around here have drastically limited their selection and don't seem to have much of anything beyond new releases. Best Buy had no Prince at all other than a single copy of Purple Rain in the budget section, and F.Y.E. only had a very small section of Prince so I ended up getting Parade. I must say although I've never seen Under The Cherry Moon, I'm really loving this album alot more than I expected seeing as they only song I initially recognized from the tracklist was Kiss. My favorite tracks are Life Can Be So Nice, Mountains, and Sometimes It Snows in April. I suppose I'll just order SOTT online but I wanted something to listen to RIGHT NOW!, lol. You could try Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth for something a bit more recent and a different sound. You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss
