PRINCE WAS ALREADY PLAYING HIS GUITAR SOLO FROM LET'S GO CRAZY BACK IN 1981! Listening to a concert from Paris in '81 and just noticed in the song 'Why do u wanna treat me so bad?' he goes into the big guitar solo and ending that is in Let's Go Crazy!!! So that part was already thought out and in place 2-3 years before he later used it in the released Let's Go Crazy! That was quite cool to hear!!!

I noticed the same thing.

How odd that someone like Bart isn't on here accusing Prince of rehashing recycling old material. [Edited 6/22/13 11:14am] "New Power slide...."

I dunno. Always struck me as a fairly generic solo over a blues riff to begin with.

errant said: I dunno. Always struck me as a fairly generic solo over a blues riff to begin with. Yup. Played well, but nothing unique.

^That's true! But I guess it's one of the things that made Prince popular with the general public. That's how you make a hit record: you make it sound new and familiar at the same time. And since he'd been rehearsing it for years, he did it well.

The solo at the end of let's go crazy typifies Princes solo style. That is, hit and sustain a note, and then proceed to ascend or descend a scale, which In the case of LGC, is/might be descending. What Ever it is, he has made that 1 of his signatures on Ax No justice, No peace

^ Yes you are right, it's too distinctive to me to be coincidence. For those in doubt, I have not heard that combination of that kind of solo and riff over any other of his songs or others' songs for that matter, I believe it's part of what makes LGC unique. Although it's just this part we can hear, it may not be a stretch to think he may have already written it or done a demo as early as '81. Songs like Tick Tick Bang (rec. 81, rerecorded and released in 1990) and Feel U UP (rec 81, recorded and released in 1989) are ones of many examples of songs that were recorded in demo form and thought out many years before they were officially released.
Else, he may have just decided to put this trademark solo/riff into an actual album song after playing it for years on tour.
Who knows?

He he.... although this is pre-1995, in his eyes Prince could do no wrong during that time!!! [Edited 6/23/13 2:17am]

I noticed that too! You are right.

I used to have that bootleg cd about 10 years ago and i always thought that solo was on party up too. this was when he was hungry for it.

Why whatever could have happened in the 90's to make Bart disdain Prince so much? "New Power slide...."

^ You'll have to ask him but apparently he was a former employee of Prince's and as we can all guess it didn't end well. However that said he contributes a lot to the databases on Prince, I believe he is connected with Princevault. [Edited 6/25/13 9:38am]

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Bart has never claimed to be a former employee of Prince's.

I have no such memory either, could it be Freaker is confusing Bart with Sassey? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

^ I did hear this from someone and tbh it would explain why he is still so emotionally invested in Prince even though he hasn't been a 'fan' for 18 years. I'm not sure in what capacity he was employed, but I think it ended around TGE era, 1995. Bart, if you're reading please feel free to correct if i'm wrong....
I thought Sassey was just a one night stander/groupie and not a former employee??!

Haha i can 't believe what i read.first of all it 's not the same solo.second that part is a regular in many songs by other artists, and it 's often there just to build up a bit more tension before ending the song [Edited 6/29/13 8:08am]

I suppose in a way it is. I have the same show on disc and see. Amazed he kept the show tame compared to the earlier New York show (March 24) where he's doing all the schtick like jacking off his guitar during a like 17 minute version of head, but the Paris show shows how much more professional he was after a few weeks.
He loved to rock out at those early shows and nearly every song was accompanied by a big ass solo at the end. There are a few tonal differences though.
Still you all have to love watching those early Dirty Mind and Controversy era shows, where he really performed his heart out and put every thing into the shows. None of those sampler sets back then. It sucked as the fans in Paris were barely connecting with him at all and if any of us were there, we would have been going apeshit (Well I would have). [Edited 6/29/13 5:45am] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

^ Yep, i absolutely love the raw energy of these gigs and the fact he is totally uninhibited singing songs like Sister and Jack U Off...... I agree to be in the audience then would have been amazing although I would have only just been born then LOL.

Is Prince playing exclusive sampler sets right now? Also: not that it matters, but was sampler technology as easily accessable and advanced back then? "I mean I always figured you were a trip at times, but now I'm beginning to believe you're a freaking vacation." -2elijah
