WOW!!!! Entertainment Weekly has updated its Top 100 Albums Of All Time list... and "Purple Rain" comes in at NUMBER 2!! OF ALL TIME!! The Beatle's "Revolver" is number 1.
Here's what the editors have to say about the "Purple Rain" soundtrack:
---
http://www.ew.com/ew/gall...l#21351462 2. Prince, Purple Rain (1984)Sexiest album ever? The PMRC thought so. The watchdog group was literally formed in response to this paisley-funk heavy breather, which builds to one awesome climax after another. How fitting that the movie the album was made for charts the Kid's rise to fame: The moment Prince sang ''Baby I'm a Star,'' he was one.
---
The EW editors also choose "Kiss" as the second-best dance song of all time.
It's incredible how Prince's artistic stature with music critics, the media and within the general population is growing by leaps and bounds these days. I really believe he's going to end up being considered the single greatest pop/rock artist EVER by the time it's all said and done. | |

He toiled and kept churning out albums (classics, good, bad, or indifferent) since his heyday and never really stopped touring. It also is amazing to see how many traditionally non Prince fans are getting hip to his guitar work and checking ot his back catalog and realizing what alot of us die hards knew for a while. This list is interesting -- most previous lists were done in the spirit of overall rock n roll history and the perspective was clearly that of mostly white journalists that grew up with classic rock.
I like the approach but have to say it is unforgivable they did not include:
- Velvet Underground and Nico
- Are You Experienced
Those two records forever belong in any top ten best records. They'd need to kiick Kanye out for sure but I don't know what else I would cut, probably Nirvana (too bad for grunge but VU and Hendrix were way more influential). | |

finally. and revolver is a masterpiece, I listen to it far more than any other Beatles album. Sgt Pepper though outstanding always comes off a little too precious for me. Revolver has it all without the pretentious vibes. but hell yeah, Purple Rain deserves number 2 | |

1. "Revolver" is my favorite Beatles album as well, so it's great to see it finally get props over "Sgt Pepper."
2. "Purple Rain" is my ALL-TIME favorite album -- period, full stop. It's the one that made me a Prince fan, and the recording I've played more than any other in my whole lifetime.
Who could have ever imagined during the early production phase of "Purple Rain"(the film) that the soundtrack to this mid-level-music-star vanity project would one day be in the discussion for best rock album of all time, right alongside the best of The Beatles, The Stones, "Pet Sounds," and Dylan. The fact that Prince was assembling this masterpiece at the ripe old age of 25!! boggles my mind. | |

it would be a very good list without Kanye in the top 10.
Revolver -----> my favorite album ever. | |

Replace Aretha with Joni's 'blue' and it would be a better list. | |
