He could, maybe with a classic used on movie soundtrack, but he always surprises and who knows what he may have up his sleeve. I don't think he'll go searching for it tho... or possibly if he duets with someone like Janelle or some other collaboration. Never say never with the wee man.

Yes, I know I live in fly-over country, but I just don't buy the idea that radio's dead. Sure, it's all one company, but it's still what a lot of people listen to. Now, whether that's what industry people are looking at or not, I don't know. But for people who don't build their lives around music (pretty much everybody out there), radio is still where they hear it. I think.

I don't think Prince will ever have another major hit. I'm still amazed that anyone claims Madonna's still relevant, though. The only things I've heard from her the last several years has been because someone else is on the track with her.

I have no idea why Prince won't have a hit, I just don't think he will. I don't hear anything that would stop him, but I don't know the business at all.

I know terrestrial radio isn't dead in the sense that no one listens to it. Because people still do. Somewhat. It's dead in the sense that no one really cares about it any more. A radio hit barely even means anything these days. It's to the point where plays on Youtube and other streaming services are what make the hits.

The people that listen to terrestrial radio these days are the people who don't have any other options. Audience has already eroded in the last 5-10 years, and will be almost completely irrelevant within the next 5-10 years.

You can tell by the way that terrestrial radio continually tries to force itself upon other "radio" type services. Did you know they wanted an FCC mandate that required Apple to make all iPods with a radio receiver? That they wanted similar concessions of ownership/access when the FCC was considering the Sirius/XM merger?

The list goes on and on. Terrestrial radio believes it has a God-given right to to listeners and become more and more desperate every time there is a new advance in the delivery system for music or other content.

They are desperate. They know full well that the writing is on the wall, and that once almost every person has access to a smart phone or a satellite in their car, their days are numbered. And it's accellerating at a rapid rate. Radio used to be king. Now it's about 3rd or 4th in the game, after things like iPhone/iPod/iPad, SiriusXM, YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, podcasts, and Apple's upcoming iRadio

And yet... they do nothing to compete. Except to demand that everyone treat them like they're still the only game in town. They continue to load up the airwaves with commercial and weather breaks every 10 minutes. They don't go after content producers (or if they do, they can't get them, because every other pasture for content producers is much greener). They kowtow to the FCC's decency regulations.

You're probably right that it's dying. I'm just annoyed by it. I'm still annoyed by the death of analog TV, which to me just seemed like a way to force people to pay for a previously free product, and the loss of location-specific media is unfortunate--but that has mostly happened in radio anyway--you mention weather breaks, but unless there's active tornadic activity (in which case some of our local stations turn things over to simulcasting TV reports) you'd be hardpressed to find any local weather or information in general on stations in our area.

What honestly does a hit mean anyway now? From what I read, people don't buy music, streaming deals pay almost nothing to the artist, touring's iffy as to whether you make back what it costs--where do artists make their money? And how much does a chart position mean, anyway?

This all used to make some sense to me--but I feel really disconnected from any of it now.

Prince hasn't had a significant run at pop radio since TMBGITW back in 1994, almost 20 years ago. He hasn't been in the top 40 since "1999" re-charted for a week at #40 in 1999 (thanks, obviously, to New Years play).

I agree it's not completely impossible for him to have a big hit, but I don't think he'd be interested in doing the things he would have to do to make it happen.

let's face it....the only way that Prince can have a huge radio hit is if somebody else produced the song for him.For example.....if he did a song produced by Pharrell and featuring some "hot" rapper (Kendrick Lamar),he would be all over the radio again.But do you really want Prince to go that route?

I remember hearing future baby mama on the radio and He also won a grammy for future baby mama back in 2008 and i remember that cuz the time reunion performance included rhianna which was a distraction.

I think the last new song I heard from Prince on broadcast radio was LetItGo and that was, what, 1994? He's on satellite radio a lot . . . the last ones I heard on those stations was Beautiful, Loved And Blessed and Get On The Boat.

Radio isn't concerned with the "new" Prince. Ageism, his refusal to pay fees to a program director, and the conglomerate that dumbs down radio will never play anything new Prince releases. He doesn't care and neither do his fans. Icons don't need radio. Look at all the old skool artists that still tour around the world without any new music. Prince just keeps going, refusing to be stuck in 1984. Radio isn't ready for the dawn...

Probably never again, he is too old and his type of music is not in fashion.
