I mean he's played often on the oldies stations and of course at the mall but does anybody out there believe he will ever have a radio hit again? Just a top 100 hit?

Sadly, I don't think he ever will. He's a bit out of touch with the current market, and a bit out of touch with reality i suspect. Although (and i know this would never happen in a million years) if he stepped off his high horse, and let someone else produce (ala Rick Rubin, David Kahne, or Nigel Godrich, etc) and let that person openly call him out on weak songs/ideas to push him in a constructive way and bring in much needed fresh air to his songs, I think Prince would come out with something that would blow all of his away.

Seriously, people I know listen to the radio. The only person I know who doesn't listen to terrestrial radio in the car is my father-in-law, who listens (as far as I can tell exclusively) to XM's "60's on 6."

Yes, I know I live in fly-over country, but I just don't buy the idea that radio's dead. Sure, it's all one company, but it's still what a lot of people listen to. Now, whether that's what industry people are looking at or not, I don't know. But for people who don't build their lives around music (pretty much everybody out there), radio is still where they hear it. I think.

I don't think Prince will ever have another major hit. I'm still amazed that anyone claims Madonna's still relevant, though. The only things I've heard from her the last several years has been because someone else is on the track with her.

I have no idea why Prince won't have a hit, I just don't think he will. I don't hear anything that would stop him, but I don't know the business at all.

There's my in inexpert opinion, full of my complete lack of knowing what I'm talking about.

I know terrestrial radio isn't dead in the sense that no one listens to it. Because people still do. Somewhat. It's dead in the sense that no one really cares about it any more. A radio hit barely even means anything these days. It's to the point where plays on Youtube and other streaming services are what make the hits.

The people that listen to terrestrial radio these days are the people who don't have any other options. Audience has already eroded in the last 5-10 years, and will be almost completely irrelevant within the next 5-10 years.

You can tell by the way that terrestrial radio continually tries to force itself upon other "radio" type services. Did you know they wanted an FCC mandate that required Apple to make all iPods with a radio receiver? That they wanted similar concessions of ownership/access when the FCC was considering the Sirius/XM merger?

The list goes on and on. Terrestrial radio believes it has a God-given right to to listeners and become more and more desperate every time there is a new advance in the delivery system for music or other content.

They are desperate. They know full well that the writing is on the wall, and that once almost every person has access to a smart phone or a satellite in their car, their days are numbered. And it's accellerating at a rapid rate. Radio used to be king. Now it's about 3rd or 4th in the game, after things like iPhone/iPod/iPad, SiriusXM, YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, podcasts, and Apple's upcoming iRadio

And yet... they do nothing to compete. Except to demand that everyone treat them like they're still the only game in town. They continue to load up the airwaves with commercial and weather breaks every 10 minutes. They don't go after content producers (or if they do, they can't get them, because every other pasture for content producers is much greener). They kowtow to the FCC's decency regulations.

Terrestrial radio is dead man walking.

Given what's currently played on radio these days, the answer is No.

But that's because pop music, and rock and roll, are dead. Completely dead.

Prince may get new stuff played on RnB stations, though. Not likely but it could happen.

It's happened within the last 10 years, so I say definitely, if he approached the process in the right way.

"Black Sweat" spent one week on the Hot 100 at number 60 from first week iTunes sales. "RNR Affair" spent a week on the Adult Contemporary chart at #29 thanks to an iHeartRadio promotion. "Future Baby Mama" reached number 39 on the R&B chart but missed the Hot 100.

With streaming and youtube plays factored into the Hot 100 now it's not inconcievable that he could have a hit (the way video plays and sales forced pop radio's hand with Robin Thicke's current #1 "Blurred Lines") but I don't know Prince will play the game correctly. Although his recent endeavours with the 3rdEyeGirl site is a good beginning to a new relationship with the internet and younger fans.

With pay 2 play?

No.......and it isn't a goal.
