I don't know why that is surprising. "Under The Cherry Moon" and "Graffitti Bridge" are bad movies and even in "Purple Rain" Prince wasn't a very compelling actor. To offer Prince membership to the Academy as an actor would be a bad look for the Hollywood industry.
My question is: what comes with being a member of the Academy of Movies? I hope Prince takes advantage of this opportunity. Maybe it will open inroads towards doing more film projects as a composer. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

Mainly, it means you get to vote on the awards. Plus a few perks like free screenings, access to Academy facilities, etc. |

The academy is about a lot more than Oscar winners. He is an actor. He has made songs for movies. He qualifies. The membership is large. Philmoreliz | |

I think people are finally getting the hint that he is great. His name keeps popping up here and there, Harper's, New York Times. Fans are coming out. Awaiting a Supreme Court Ruling to make idolizing Prince a badge of honor. Philmoreliz | |

I hope he doesn't join. Reslly tired of so many self-important groups of celebrities getting together to pat themselves and each other on the back for such irrelevant reasons. But that's right up his alley. | |

be honest, i really loved the two movies..don't think it's bad i only hope he could do these kind of film more n more.. n never give up!

Nope, and he didn't deserve to be.

Being an Academy member is not that big a deal. You get some perks and you get to vote on the Academy Awards--or your children do if they pinch your ballot--but it is a large organization with lots of members. Still, I am glad they invited im and surprised that it took so long. Had it mattered to him, I am sure it would have happened earlier. [Edited 7/6/13 20:24pm] Philmoreliz | |
