Sign o the Times--because most of it's strong and because it's long. Some tracks might be weaker than some on other classic albums, but with the added number of tracks, I'm still getting more great ones. And the variety is a plus, too. He may have made more solid "statements," but Sign is like I found some sort of crazy radio station playing a bunch of great songs that just happen to be by the same guy.

And I listened to it for like a solid year, probably, as I was going to sleep. I know every note on it--or at least, I think I do until I listen to it again and find some little detail I've missed.

Possibly other albums might be as rewarding to repeated listening--but just the way things worked out and the timing of my life, this one got more attention and so made a greater impression. I'm pretty sure that some later albums would benefit from greater familiarity--but the simple fact is that I don't have the time (or time to myself, since neither my wife or daughter want to hear too much Prince and I want to be around them) to give to recent albums. So they just don't have the chance to become my "favorite."

I tjinks its great. He used sampling throught the album in ways he hadnt before...it was very effective and not transparent or obvious. That really helps me appreciate it a lot. And he didnt meander or get caught up self indulging. It was concise and to the point.

I absolutely adore SOTT. It's such an amazing album! The jazzy uniqueness and the heady, sensual, city-like atmosphere and them just makes the album perfection. Songs like Play In The Sunshine and Starfish and Coffee gives the album a whimsical feel to balance with the raw sexuality of Hot Thing, Slow Love and IIWYG as well as the awareness of the title track and The Cross. it's just a melting pot of creativity that conjures different and unexpected emotions with every song. Just perfection.I also enjoy Lovesexy as well. IMO it is a vast difference from SOTT but that's one of the things I like about it. It's a very fun, dreamy album that seems to take you on a trip in your mind between the barriers of spirtuality and the beauty of love and sex. Such a gorgeous album that you have to take in in its entirty... Just two amazing albums heart
heart ...No wonder there are more ardent MJ fans...

There's his quote by Marvin Gaye:

"An artist, if he is truly an artist, is only interested in one thing and that is to wake up the minds of men, to have mankind and womankind realize that there is something greater than what we see on the surface."

To me, the soundtrack album Parade best encompasses that. Songs like "Life Can Be So Nice"and "Christopher Tracy's Parade" are just straight incredible. "New Poistion" is a funk drive that I never tire of, and don't get me started on it's live erformance versions. It would take the cake for his most consistent album if not for "Anotherloverholenyohead", which is still a great song, but doesn't quite match up to the granduer of the other tracks.

"Under the Cherry Moon", "Veus de Milo" and "I Wonder You" are like an introspective journey through the soul, with "Girls & Boys", "Kiss" and Do U Lie?" being on the most sensual side of that limitless spectrum.

"Sometimes It Snows in April" is the point in which there is the most strife intrenally. That song resonates with me more so than Purple Rain ever could, it definitely feels like a bttle of wills, as one tries to overcome character flaws and be a better person.

But the crowing achievment of this album is surely "Mountains", I'd even go as far as saying it's Prince's best song. The extended dance mix is out of this world, like a breezy sunlight drenched drive to the coast on holiday.
