Prince song 'Good Man' and Robin Thicke He may be Robin Thicke but is he Robin Prince? The chorus of 'Blurred Lines' is very similar to the chorus of Prince's outtake by Prince. Anybody else notice that? “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

No Prince at all. I only hear Marvin Gaye's 'Got To Give It Up' when I hear this song. Robin Thicke is doing what Prince hasn't been able to do for years. Blurred Lines is a hit and will be played in the clubs and at parties this summer, unlike any new Prince release. [Edited 6/25/13 8:08am]

I don't see any bit of "Good Man" in "Blurred Lines", but that's not to say that I don't hear an overall Prince influence in the song.
I love Robin Thicke, but he tends to have 2 or 3 of these radio-friendly songs per album and a lot of more generic R&B ballads.
Yes, this song will be huge this summer in the clubs and parties. I don't see Screwdriver being played 1/1000th of what Blurred Lines will be.

Blurred lines is how I thought Prince should/would sound in the future...way back in the 80's! Love4oneanother

that's weird i was trying to think what prince song it reminded me of - not any particular song but those ultra falsetto fast beat songs like good man and bliss, mindbells, others?

Blurred Lines is a musical blender of:
Marvin - Got to Give it Up Michael - Don't Stop Till You Get Enough Prince - Kiss
w/a strange dash of Jack Johnson's sped up Banana Pancakes.
A Hit that Prince probably wishes he made.

Prince will not have a major hit if he is not on a major record company. If Prince has signed a deal with Kobalt perhaps he will have a major hit. I do not think we need some ex-girlfriend with no fucking clue as to how the music industry works making predictions.

So what does "we" need? A little attention from Sassey?

Glad it's not just me, Blurred lines definitely reminds me of Prince's sound from the 80's mostly, just cannot pinpoint the exact tune. You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

I would say Robin Thicke reminds me more of Curtis Mayfield's voice in 'Pusherman'. I think Robin and Pharrell (in his song 'Frontin' for example) sound more like Curtis Mayfield than Prince, and Curtis Mayfield came before Prince.

Robin Thicke is by no means as talented as Prince . . . but, having said that, he is much more relevant at the moment and he is in his "prime". . If we think of Robin's career in terms of albums, then right now he's at Purple Rain (Prince's 6th album). He's in his prime. . Although, Robin's albums (aside from the first one) are not that eclectic. Like I said before, aside from 2-3 radio-friendly tracks, most of it is somewhat generic R&B. . One other thing to consider: Pharrell is Thicke's producer, has been since the beginning. So there is some hit-making and stuff going on behind the scenes.

We need you to stop speaking on things you nothing about or just decide to ignore. Like Pharrel sounding like Curtis Mayfield on fronting. Pharrel cannot sing for shit he has a terrible singing voice and once again you come off like you are 12 years old.

I have an opinion and I'll speak on whatever I want. You don't run shit. I think you're used to trying to entertain 12 yrs olds and you have your sites mixed up again. Clown. [Edited 6/26/13 11:10am]

Everybody has opinion it does not mean you need to share them all. Grown people are discussing topics on this board and you are out of your element.

Again, I'll share whatever opinions I want to share about Prince on this site and when Prince wants to make a hit that radio will play like they're playing this new Robin Thicke song, tell him to send me an orgnote.

No. Prince doesn't want a hit and doesn't give a shit about the charts and hasn't done for years. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

I don't believe you and I suggest you don't believe the things Prince says in interviews.

Nothing like it whatsoever!!! It bears more of a resemblance to SexyBack by Timberlake....especially the Good girl bit... However the video is almost pornographic, there is an unrated verion on Vevo with topless women with see through undies...
If you really want to hear a song with a resemblance too much to be coincidence listen to Phone Sex (by a 90s band) and Girl 6 and Lavaux and the Pointer Sister's Automatic! [Edited 6/26/13 13:15pm] [Edited 6/26/13 13:15pm]

"Blurred Lines" is fucking garbage.
If Prince made a song like this I would cry.
I'd rather listen to "Purple & Gold", and yes i mean that. |

^ I love Blurred Lines and I'm going to see Robin Thicke Live July 11th
I've never heard Good Man before so I can't comment on the songs similarities, but I think Robin has a bit of Prince's Purple Flavor. Just a little though! From the vineyards of Lavaux back 2 the heart of Minnesota. U R was, and will 4ever B The Purple Yoda....

the thing about 'phone sex' is, it is made up mainly from samples (as most hip-hop is) - so the song itself is 'stolen' from the previous work of others. it'd be like saying mr goodnight rips off biggie smalls, when in fact biggie smalls based his song on a debarge song. but no one is hating on hip-hop acts when they base a song on a previous one! in fact it's the opposite - people say "wow, have u heard what xxxx did with that old Rick james song" etc etc. just because prince occassionally produces a song that has some basis in an older song - people shout plagarist or that he's losing it. while in fact with over 3000 songs to his credit - only a very small fraction have some basis in the previous work of others. so in conclusion - get over it.

am I the only one who doesn't like this song? plus I find in general this Robin guy so insipid

It's certainly better than anything I've ever heard from Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I'm not that bothered about it, I was making an observation and there was actually a plagiarism court case over it. I don't recall if they won or not. I personally think he did 'borrow' a lot from that song it's almost identical really just with 'Girl 6' said instead of 'Phone Sex' although he did add a few of his own adaptations such as screams.
Although Prince is quite unique, if you think he has never copied or plagiarised then you're living in cloud cuckoo land. That said a lot of people copy and plagiarise him too.
