Prince Vs. Nile Rodgers

Hypothetical Situation

If these cool cats were going to have a rhythm section axe off, who would win?

The Hitmaker Vs. The Kid

Vs.

I'll tell you what? That would be the funkiest rhythm jam session ever!

Don't sleep on Nile Rodgers, Prince will probably tell you the same damn thing as would Nile about Prince.

Prince is one of the best rhythm guitar players but so is NIle.But Nile 's rhythm style and harmonic solutions he use are very complex. While Prince base his rhythm guitar on 9thchords, chords that Nile usesare very complex jazz chords but he make it sound like he plays standard pop chords. And while Nike don 't show offhe is a beast on lead guitar.listen to Niles solo on AL Jarrou Golden Girl

Nile is great on rhythm. ..but the kid's. Got him beat. The kid can make his rhythm, lead; and make his lead, rhythm. IT live anyone. Small example.
Nile can make a crowd jump...but prince can make a crowd jump on the opposite side of the planet from reverberation of the jumping of the crowd that's on this side

Bob but Nile is a great kead guitar player also. During the early years of Chic NIle was playing rhythm only but when New Wave hit the charts CHic left disco and starting with album Real People and afterwards youcan find a lot of guitar solos on Chic songs. And Nile can play rock style guitar solos and jazz guitar solos.so please inform yourself before you judge Nile

I was just thinking aboiut Niles' skills yesterday. But, THAT'S a toughie. hmmm

I'm gonna go with Niles though. Only because that's the aspect of playing he concentrates on. Prince is all over the place with the geetar, but this is Niles' domain. smile

Whatever...i dont agree with you. I am informed about Nile...i just dont agree. Where did i speak against him? My comments focused in how prince plays. Nile is a GREAT guitarist...i dont doubt it..I KNOW it. I think prince out does him.

Maybe you misunderstood my meaning...princes rhythm guitar can be the star of the show. Conversely....he uses his lead in a way sometimes that functions for rrhythm. ....rhythm can lead and his lead can rhythm.

And again...where did i "judge" Nil. ..hes a great guy and a great guitarist. Sould i "judge" your use of the english language...or let you be?

Do you mean playing in his own band, or doing the opening act before Niles hits the stage?

No Bob.you said that Nile Rogers is good at jumping and playing rhythm and that Prince us great at playing rhythm and lead also. Did you ever hear Nile Rogers playing guitar solos. I suggest you to listen to a 1982 song Hanging by Chic or Golden Girl song by AL Jerraou or NIles solo stuff. And btw i know to play lots of licjs byPrince. PRince is the man but Nile is no slouch either. And i know you know Niles rhythm style but maybe you 're not so familiar with Niles soloing

Maybe i am and maybe i disagree....i didnt say niles was good at jumping. Im confident in saying i like prince's lead work more than niles as well as rhtyhm work. Im sorry i dont agree with you. Some of it is the entirety of the career. Some of it is exposure...most of it is degree of the command of multiple styles andbthe ability of blending styles...including blending lead and rhythm. ..back to the lead/rhythm rhythm/lead ohrase. If i could hear niles pullkng off a song like "thbtruth" and then follow up with "fascination" and "welcome to the dawn",my view might vary....and thats just one fuckin album, mind you.

BOb u don 't get it.Prince is my favorite guitar player, i 'm just saying u can 't judge Nile by Chic 's greatest hits.Nile showcased a much wider range of styles on the latter albums by Chic. Please check Chic -Hanging (1982) and Al Jerraou Golden Girl

My vote is for Prince..

Nile is the man and his rhythm chops are legendary but,

Prince has got more James Brown/Sly in his feel and for my money thats preferable to what nile does..

Niles is legendary when it comes to disco rhythm guitar with constant variations in advanced jazz chords. Also for producing and writing songs with that light yet effective rhythm guitar touch to a lot of pop productions. Although I prefer Princes way of incorporating intricate syncopation to his patterns that both can play under without stealing the attention, as well as playing sexy and seducing on top with just a few well placed and felt notes. He is the master of making little sound like more. His feel, timing, class and style is his strength. And no matter how advanced jazz you put against it, it's still a win for Prince. His less is more approach is also why I always preferred his lead style to Jesse Johnson.
