I also thought for years that Chelsea Rodgers still had a butt like a leather seat! Would have a line around the hood... A convoluted way of saying adults would routinely nurse if milk was beneficial for adults to consume routinely or if breast feeding was a viable nutritional choice for an adult. Butt like a leather seat...a big juicy one that makes the pants it is in taught/tight. [Edited 6/25/13 13:00pm] Ahhh! I get it- line around the hood!! I was thinking what kinda hood, a jacket? A car?! Ha ha Never thought about hood in those terms. Thanks so much BobGeorge909! The Chelsea Rodgers song I think is "Still got a butt like a letter C" as in curvy & round- no a leather seat as I always used to sing! Ha ha Man, I bet there r tons of Prince songs that I sing my stupid made-up lyrics to! Oh aye, in Lavaux I always sang Hawaiian mystery- I'm a total tube!

* "Starfish & Coffee" seems to be about individuality. Cynthia is celebrated for being able to be her own person in the face of classroom/peer ridicule. What's really good about the song is the twist. At the beginning of the song, we are led to believe that something is wrong with Cynthia, but by the end of the song we realize that it is not Cynthia that has the problem but that her classmates/peers are simply not as independent and free as Cynthia as the song ends with "Go'on Cynthia," which simply means "keep doin' yo' thang girl" and because Cynthia is happy/content with who she is. * Also, I don't think that Prince's explanation that the symbol of red blood in a blue sky making purple rain being a religious reference was a revision. Though, I do think that he was making the connection to "1999" as well as to "Purple Rain." As Dave Hill discusses in Prince: A Pop Life and as C. Liegh McInnis discusses in The Lyrics of Prince both "1999" and "Purple Rain" paint or echo a type of Armageddon with "1999" representing the hell fire and damnation and "Purple Rain" representing the salvation though "Purple Rain," unlike "1999," can be read equally as a personal/romantic cleansing whereas "1999" is meant to be strictly an allegorical reading of the end of the tangible world. And, the reason I don't think that it is a revision by Prince is because blood in the sky is a pretty common metaphor, such as Margaret Walker's "let a bloody peace be written in the sky," from her poem "For My People." Of course, part of Prince's genius is his ability to be ambiguous, but aren't most well-crafted poetry/lyrics purposely ambiguous so that they can have two or three meanings? So, with the blood in a blue sky, Prince was just doing what he does so well, which is to trope symbols and use them for his own messages/purposes. Therefore, connecting the Armageddon imagery of "1999" to the other religious imagery that was well established in Prince's work, it doesn't seem too unlikely that Prince wanted the listeners to have a religious as well as a romantic reading of "Purple Rain," especially since his entire career has been driven by combining or juxtaposing the energies of sexual passion and spiritual passion. It's like one reviewer of the Controversy Tour stated about the end of the show when Prince is standing atop the stage with his arms spread wide: "Is it a reenactment of the crucifix, or is it just an entertainer showing that he has given all that he has to give?" Whatever the answer/purpose was, we can't deny that the cross and other religious imagery were a part of the stage setting, show, and songs, which all worked to evoke a deeper reading of the songs at that time.

In "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker", I always took the lyric "violent room" to be an audience. Something akin to when a comedian is in front of "a tough crowd".

Dude, learn how to quote properly. You suck at the internet. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Sassey Tavares has a profile on facebook. She has pictures and everything! She keeps all of her friends about her experience with Prince and she has been keeping us up on all the latest. I don't think Sassey should have been banned but I'm glad I friended her on facebook. The woman has stories going back to 2009! She even has the exact date, time, and replies of some org members all over her profile. Even replies from old thread removed by moderators. It's like reading a recap of the last 4 years. It's a great summer read! She goes all into the reason Prince has this exact lyric in the song Laydown. Sassey explains everything. I understand why she was so angry with Prince and his people. I think everything she said is true. It now makes sense to me why Prince has been acting so desperate since Lotusflower.

Shame that Sassey has been banned, she had a different perspective, and an amazing vocabulary! Would love for Prince to write a book about his songs their meanings for him, and see how close we are. Sometimes songs are open to interpretation and there isn't a definate meaning.
Imagination is all that's required.
