I guess the article is aimed at a wider audience than would-be Prince fans, because those tunes are not exactly 'hidden' or hard to get ahold of.

Great tune selection, so whoever wrote the article is obviously a Prince fan, though.

Most of those songs appear to be complimentary of drug culture, being that the tone and spirit the tunes promote seem to lend themselves to cocaine usage. But, this is rock & roll, and any hidden agendas of Prince or the person writing the article can be forgiven considering the quality of the material.

Thanks SinCity :-)Let me lift the article over here: Prince turns 55 today: 10 of his Essential Hidden Gems Posted by Chris Gerard June 7, 2013 10:24 AM | Permalink His Royal Badness turns 55 on Friday, June 7. In celebration, we take a look back at his career and examine some of his lesser-known gems. Everybody knows his long list of classics: “When Doves Cry,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Kiss,” “Purple Rain” to name just a very few, as well as his 2nd tier of hits like “Thieves in the Temple,” “Musicology,” “Alphabet Street”, “Controversy”, etc. His back catalog, stretching from his debut album “For You”, released when he was still a teenager in 1978 (and even then he was playing all the instruments), through is most recent single “FixurLifeup” is massive – and that only includes the officially released albums. Dozens and dozens of bootleg studio recordings of various sound qualities circulate among fans, and there are tales of his legendary Vault where hundreds or possibly thousands of unreleased songs are sitting collecting dust and capturing the imagination and yearning of Prince’s die-hard fans. I'm guessing that they want the people to go to the original site. They've got ads on the thing, so probably they want the hits. It's not you making money; it has to do with their making money.

Or, maybe they just want people to visit the site because they might look around the place, and decide they like the site for other articles, writers, etc--and then become regular visitors. Which still might tie into money, but also, if you write stuff--you want people to read it, right?

Not bad choices. And, for non-fans (the only real target for an article like this, really--we all have our favorites, don't we? And while we might suddenly develop a new fondness for something we didn't like before, it's not like we won't stumble on it when we have our player set on random anyway). there are some nice inclusions. Although getting a hold of some them might require non-fans to go to non-standard channels, which is too bad. A massive catalog doesn't mean much if people can't buy it. Fix that up, please.

V10LETBLUES

That was beautiful.

The quote I love and seems kinda ironic now is "MJ is a genius of course, but loving Prince is cooler and slightly less complicated"

Who would have thought back in the day that Prince would be the less complicated one to love.

I don't know why the writer calls Prince "troubled". He's always done whatever the hell he wants!

That's an interesting observation. I don't see the drug culture in the songs. More of a sexual nature, in my opinion. Can you explain imago. smile

Don't whatever one wants has nothing to do with being troubled. In fact, people with impulse control problems are nothing but troubled. Adolph Hitler did whatever he wanted, (except win) and I'm pretty sure he was a very troubled person.

Also, the website seems to be a gay site and with Prince falling on the WRONG side of the gay issue, (i.e. taking the biblical stance on the matter) it seems only reasonable that the writer would find him troubled if for no other reason than that. Like Mr. Sulu paid someone to say on his behalf on facebook - being against gay issues is like getting agnry that the guy in front of you at Subway ordered a different sandwich than the one you were going o order.
