CHIC?-has P ever acknowledged them as an influence?... ..because listening to tracks like Hangin' makes you realise that the signature MPLS funk drum sound & ryhthm + the MPLS chicken grease guitar licks were borrowed heavily from that record alone!

He's done Le Freak live for a few years now, yes?

^Yes! Stupid question, really. Prince has showed his respect to Chic, Marvin Gaye, Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, you name 'em!

So true, and people ask why he plays covers of their songs. I always see his covers as tributes to those artists.

It would have gone in one ear and out the other.

Although P probably liked them, I just can't buy into what you're saying.
'Hangin'' was released in 1982... same year as 'Controversy'.
Also, 'Hangin'' is not a true representative of Chic's songs, sound, nor arrangement.
Now if you wanna mention Change, there's some serious Chic influence there.
The group of Italian musicians that backed Luther Vandross and the other singers in Change did Chic better than Chic did... Listen to 'The Glow of Love' as an excellent example. 'Lover's Holiday' is another great example.
That was a cool transatlantic recording process... all music recorded in Italy, then shipped to the U.S. (NYC) for the vocal overdubs.

Controversy came out in '81. But yeah, when Chic went synths and drum machines, it was more of them being influenced by Prince than the other way around.
