Why, u seem to have the right attitude, there shouldn't be any problem, then smile

Of course I wouldn't go as far as to have a 2 years old exposed to hardcore things about sex or violence because there is a limit to the amount of shit they can take or comprehend at such a young age (though if they happened to be exposed by accident then a good explaination might save the day), but with swearing it should all work well. The funny thing is that this song has a pretty complex and moral meaning, and so does Sexy MF actually (it's kinda feminist in a way if u pay attention), and explaining the deep meaning of the whole thing may prove more difficult than to speak about the F word lol

Don't worry, u and ur wife seem to be great parents, it's gonna be fine smile

Exactly. The second thing I thought when he responded to this song, after hoping he didn't go to school and sing the song, was that one day he will hear the actual message and understand with crystal clear clarity what he's up against being and what he has to do to attain what he wants. I really appreciate your comments around this. You do this shit day in and day out without thinking about it, and a run of the mill post like this makes it all coalesce into something I can sit back and wrap my hear around. And we do keep him away from sex and violence...it's all about Yo Gabba Gabba right now when the tv's on.

smile

I use the "at home only" rule too and it works well! My daughter in now 6 yo, she probably know more bad words than I do by now lol but she NEVER use them except when it's me and her (and her brother) alone. We joke and play with them, but she knows some people may feel offended or hurted and I explained her that when you're with other people, it's everyone responsability to make things as comfortable as possible for EVERY person that's there in that moment. I started explaining this when she was 2 and she picked it up quite quickly... And now, althought she CAN use bad words with a good ability, she always scold my hubby if he says something inappropriate.

I mean. He knows the song already, and he'll hear bad words sooner or later anyway... Take this chance to explain how it works, it may come handy even later.

Violence or sex are completely different problems IMHO.

eek eek eek

you lot have to be american right?

2-6 you freely "fuck" etc around children?

wow...that is wrong on so so many levels

I am French.

The French equivalent of the "F" word and all other profanities are allowed and common on French TV anyway (unlike in the US) so they'll here them anyway. Bad words really are a very unimportant thing for French people, though of course good manners do exist and are taught to kids.

I don't see what's so wrong with bad words per se. They're just words. They don't even mean anything anymore because swearing "Fuck" is now an abstract concept that has no relation to the sexual act, same as "shit" is unrelated to actual poo, and the same goes with any other profanity. When I say "Fuck" and "Shit" I could as well say "Frack" and "Spoon", it's an abstract thing that is just supposed to mean that I'm pissed, I don't actually think of sex and poo in these moments. I heard and used the French equivalent of "Fuck" (which is a bad word for saying "prostitute") for years without understanding its exact meaning. My parents had just explained to me that it was something people said when they were pissed and that it shouldn't be used in front of others and that explaination was perfectly fine with me (and correct in this context, they were not lying to me, just explaining me a meaning while ommitting another, many words have several meaning...) and only when I was much older did they tell me about sex and people paying women for sex, when I was old enough to know about such things.

The only wrong thing about profanities is to use them in an inappropriate context, this is pure social convention and of course kids have to be taught about social conventions for their own sake, but profanities are not something bad in themselves. God doesn't care about profanities. I understand and respect parents not wanting to use them in front of their kids and I am not saying parents should curse all day long in front of kids but hell, cursing happens every once in a while, it's part of life. If you hide and forbid, they'll catch you swearing one day, sooner or later, and then they'll think you are hypocrites and THAT is something wrong on so many more levels in terms of education.

Just my opinion, though, I don't mean to insult or get in a fight with you but we can have an cool open conversation about it wink

come on!!!!!

but i do at least respect how well you have conveyed your point...but it did make me laugh about God not caring about profanaties...

dont start effing and blinding at the pearly gates just in case!!

I already answered that. I didn't, EVER. Fact. My godson doesn't, EVER. Fact. I was not a brainless parrot and neither is he. Fact. This not a matter of opinion, this is factual. And I don't think me or my godson are exceptional geniuses, just regular dudes who learned how to use their brain at a young age.

Kids that do it, their problem is not that their parents swear, it's that their parents fail to teach them proper social behaviors and conventions and/or to properly think by themselves about actions and their consequences and that usually has consequences that go way beyond cursing at the bank, unfortunately.

OK for the God thing lol wink

I this he/she was speaking to cultural differences. So bringing up saying it at the bank or supermarket is somewhat moot. I think the point is tht its silly for a parent to accept the use of the word "shoot" in the ways it can be interchanged with the word "shit". Or friggin for fuckin....the sentiment is the same...and the sentiment is the point. If something needs to be addressed about how thebchild is communicating, it shiu l d be the sentiment and not the soecific version of vowels and consanants.

9 y/o: "this food taste crappy" vs. "This food taste shitty".....or "thats a friggin lie!" Vs. "Thats a fuckin lie!" Whats the difference???...context and sentiment need to be addressed with this child...not the choice of words.
