Which one do you feel Prince is better at? Guitar or Piano? we all agree that Prince is a pretty good Guitarist(about the level of a Guitar Institute of Technology graduate) but after watching Under the cherry moon the solo piano stuff is quite impressive and distinctive!whereas he sounds like Hendrix and Santana on guitar he sounds unique on piano.I would dare to say he is a far superior keyboardist than Guitarist. what do you think? |

Prince is not "pretty good",
Prince is: "pretty brilliant" on a guitar.
One of the greatest --- ever.
I can't judge how "good" he is on a piano.. Prince 4Ever. |

I wouldn't know, but I'm impressed by his guitar playing.
I also love his piano playing quite a lot.
I do think he's probably best at the skin flute, but that's a thread on it's own. |

Piano-his playing is heavenly and he really should do more of it-actually just Prince and a piano would be a great show! [Edited 6/9/13 12:26pm] |

I think prince is an otherwordly guitarist. He is an excellent piano player but i'd rather see him with a guitar then behind a piano. What's underneath your hair,Is anybody living in there? |

I would say that Prince is at his best when he plays guitar/bass. I believe his keyboard/piano playing is very good and just like his guitar playing he conveys emotion through his piano playing. That's one of the many things that makes Prince so special. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |

Prince is a vastly underrated pianist, though you wouldn't know it from listening to his albums, except One Nite Alone (studio). Some really impressive live keyboard moments that I've come across in cyberspace include a brief but stunningly jazzy stint on the piano towards the end of the 1988 Paisley Park NYE show, and a cameo at a Shiela E performance at Redondo Beach. The piano medley for the Dortmund 1988 Lovesexy show is great, if a tad gimmicky with all the flashy scales and arpeggio runs (but the set does have an OTT self-parodying vibe). Sometimes his piano playing is laid back and tasteful, and there are lovely bluesy and jazzy chord inflections in some of the medleys that add new flavours to old songs -- and really speak of his musicianship. I also rather like the funky left hand he cuts loose on solo piano versions of I Wanna Be Your Lover and A Love Bizarre. |
