I've never listened to any Pearl Jam before, but I thought they were a grunge band and this sounds more like fusion rock.

I do like what I hear.

Could be good. I've never gotten into Pearl Jam because I absolutely cannot stand Eddie Vedder's voice. But their music has always seemed to be OK.

It's one thing to hear it on the internet but I bet it will be on another level at Myth, esp. when Prince does his part on the guitar.

Hopefully they will keep this and ditch their current cover by The Cars.

just heard the snippet, sort of thing i could listen to all day, very mellow vibe for a grunge/rock/funk thang. hope the album has a lot of stuff like this as the songs so far seem to get boring quick, whereas instrumentals take longer to get to know imo.

Oh my god, people really think that Prince had not been exposed to Pearl Jam before, and that his 22-year-old girls (kids born in 1991) introduced him to Pearl Jam???!!!

It's one thing for a 24-year-old Prince to be introduced to stuff by fellow 20-somethings (although that story of him not knowing about jazz before W&L is plain ludacris), but really everyone's taking that quote about the "young people having all the new ideas" WAY too seriously!

Unfortunately, Pearl Jam got lumped into the 'grunge' rock universe, much like Nirvana. But these bands, never fancied themselves as part of any one stylistic movement.

They all saw themselves (And see themselves) as rock bands. As a matter of fact, Pearl Jam's first album, of which even flow is on, was to them really an extension of American rock in the style of Niel Young. It's striipped down instrumentally consisting of just standard rock instruments, lacking violins, etc. But, the songs are not dirivitive like a nasty ass Creed song would be. Pearl Jam and Nirvana (especially Nirvana), took many of their ques from American 70s punk bands as well, though they incorporate guitar solos into their songs.

Prince no longer sings with the ferocity and emotional intensity that Vedder conveys live, so attempting a pearl Jam song for Prince would be like Rihanna trying to cover A demanding or intense Aguilera or Whitney Houston song.

I like it quite a bit.

As do the people over on the Pearl Jam site's forum, apparently.

I thin all of the studio versions are too toned down. This group deserves the purple rain era, live warehouse recorded sound. You need that raw energy to appreciate these new tracks.

But since he didn't sing here, I'm okay. I think it's probably played 8 times in a row, and I haven't stopped it yet.

Yuck. If THIS is what the "younger generation" is turniing Prince onto, then it's time to "get the band back together."

Prince doesn't need to cover anyone else's music, the man is talented enough to just do his own. I want to hear your music Prince, not your covering of someone's else music. I'm not a fan of Pearl Jam, I'm a fan of yours.
