i dont know if its what ida used, but the Danelectro Fabtone has been a favorite among Princes bassists. Larry used it, Rhonda used it. i love the pedal, i have it in my pedalboard. its a guitar pedal but it sucks on guitar, but its one of the best for bass.

It's mos def a Danelectro Fabtone. They are CHEAP. I don't think thy make them anymore, but even when they did I found them all the time for $35 and they are built like tanks. I liked them on guitar, too. I suppose it's how you play. I used it as a fuzz, which I think was the purpose. They're prety cool on bass, for sure.

I think looking at Larry's setup is a good understanding of that Fuzz-Metal sound we hear, but Ida's seems to be just "More" , "Fatter" , "Harder" , "Grungier". IS that all in her fingers or? But for now I am on the hunt for a Danelectro Fabtone, thanks.... I found some links of Larry's pedalboard any thoughts?

Some info I found on the net about Larry's setup and a pick of his pedalboard I found on Tumblr.

Larry Graham’s Gear

Moon Larry Graham Snow White bass with Bartolini J pickups and 27-volt Bartolini preamp

Strings and Accessories
GHS Boomers (.035–.095), Ernie Ball straps

it could be anything from strings to the way she plays to eq settings or any equipment before or after the pedal. any pedal will have some difference in sound from the rig its going through.

This is articel is from May 2012, but the bass sound is new and I have a feeling it's the infuence of Donna Gartis and that started around Nov.2012.

Just a thought.

It's the Danelectro Fab Tone, I have one and they are awesome.

However Larry combines his with a Jet Phazer which is hard to get hold of.

I think any deep phazer pedal teamed with the Fab Tone would work

It's pronounced JUGgernaut, Larry, not JOGgernaut. Also, this pre-dates the Danelctro Fabtone, so Larry wouldn't be using it here. He used it with Prince for certain and as of an email exchange with Rhonda as of yesterday this is confirmed along with Rhonda using one herself. Danelctro Fabtone. Cheap and good. Case closed.

I bought one on eBay. It arrived today and did not work at all. I believe the seller knew it did not work... I'm so pissed! Now, I have to wait for return instructions and my refund, or be ready to dispute. I hate feeling like I just got ripped off!

And I was so excited to start experimenting with my bass and my new pedal. Major disappointment! sad

Hope you find a working pedal, and let us know when you do what your thoughts are on the sound.

Yes, it is indeed the Fab Tone pedal.

I just got a new old stock one from a local music store, never used, in full packaging. Since I know the owner, and it was sitting in his pedal display case for years, he gave me a fantastic deal.

I can't wait to try it out on both guitar and bass when I get to the studio.

I have tried my Fuzz Face with Bass... no good. The Big Muff ain't bad, but I must admit that it was Rhonda/Larry/Prince that made me want to try it out.

Ida works it well too.
