...oh and btw in case you didnt realize my homophobic generation would not go for this in a second they would call him a gay and blast him to the ends of the earth. the 80s was the ONLY time prince could be this radical

Your post makes me cringe. Thank God the rest of your generation is not homophobic like you. I actually find it quite bizarre that you would think that young people are MORE homophobic today than they were in the 1980s. I mean, even for a 20-y/o that's the most inane statement I've heard in a while. And this is the Org.

Homophobia is pathetic, and so incredibly old-fashioned. Young people who make ignorant statements like calling someone "a gay" (I mean, for real?! A gay?!) and who make references to "blasting" gay people "to the ends of the earth" are not in touch with their generation. Maybe you and your friends are homophobic, but luckily your generation isn't.

did you not read anything i put in that post? my guess is you are in no way in touch with this generation AT ALL. dont let the younger people protesting for gay rights on tv fool you. that is the exception not the rule and i said THEY would call him gay. i personally would not care and i know enough people my age to be correct on this. they called kanye west gay just for wearing a Kilt and they always call justin bieber gay for being short and not having facial hair. wat do you think they would do to an image like this? rip it to shreds. if i was homophobic i wouldnt be a prince fan obviously lol get some glasses. let me remind you that MEN in the 80's wore lipstick and full blown make up. do you see that now?...cause its not accepted by THIS generation. and not even my friends just people in general my age

welp

I'm just glad that I've been a fan since 1979 to enjoy Prince's journey and enjoy each era or period and not feel the need to diss one for the other. So rather than having to choose the wilder Lovesexy era over the so-called yawn-fest pimp suit era, I've had years of eclectic and funky joy. Besides, some of y'all ain't wild enough to wear your draws in public, and the rest of y'all ain't funky enough to wear a playa's suit. Yet, a very select few of us look good doing it all and are free enough not to care about the haters.

Alrighty then! biggrin

Not me! When Eye first saw Prince 4 the first time. He stripped down 2 this with no shame @ all...

The difference is, this was done in a photo studio, not from the bushes outside Paisley Park using night vision goggles & a telephoto lense;)

It's obvious they were trying different things, and this one wasn't picked, there are probably a whole slew of shots from this shoot.

for a bit it reminds me of what he did on the Parade album, like he was trying to work his hands/arms into an expression.

Like the Parade album shoot there are a whole bunch of cuts from that, that didn't make it, this Lovesexy one just wasn't the best and so wasn't fixed up.

True! But I don't think it is the pose people are reacting to, but the clothes (or lack thereof). With the fans he has today, Prince would have been finished by Dirty Mind.

I agree, I don't get people who say they are fans but can't accept parts of his career or personality.

and way too many underlying 'homophobic' comments.

Most his career Prince was half dressed.

He started out on his 1st 2 albums with naked pictures.

Conservative America didn't go for the whole Lovesexy thing.
(Less conservative) Europe, and some other (less conservative) parts of the world went big time for it !
Like Japan went crazy as hell for all things Lovesexy.
Prince was at the peak of his level in Europe & Japan in '88.
They/we loved very single bit of it.
Lovesexy, the music, the image, it was all over the radio, newspapers, magazines, even everywhere in the record shops on big posters.
I still have a few of those.
They're fucking cool still up to this day.
I remember in The Netherlands, they even stated on the radio that Prince went totally for Polka Dots (Alphabet st. Video).
---
That said; it's sad that in the US people didn't even bother listening to the record, the music because of the imagery, the album cover etc.
I understand music can be very much related to imagery, but, at the end it's the sound, the songs, the notes that count, right?
Lovesexy is the most conceptual of all Prince things to me, and the best!
I love this crazy motherfucker in his awe full bikinis and gloves. smile
And no, it absolutely doesn't look masculine, but certainly not gay at all! It looks Lovesexy - unique and unexplainable, exactly what it is.
You heterosexuals should ask gay people about what they think of these images, etc. smile

I would looooove to fuck people who say things like this, or even think like that. Tough at first, then slowly and looooong. Just to prove them what they are missing. Yes I'm gay.

This was the era that made me a diehard fan. How does criticizing one ugly picture equal criticizing the entire era? The pic is comically bad. It doesn't mean everyone hates the Lovesexy era because they don't like the pic.

Your comment has me questioning if you actually know how to read or if you just make it a habit of not fully reading something before you make a dumb comment. If you read my entire post, it is clear that I am not addressing people who do not like the picture. So, again, can you read? My comment is addressing those people who felt a need to diss one or certain eras as a way to celebrate or give props to another era. So, if all you did was say that you don’t like the picture, then my comment is not directed toward you. However, if you continued to say I love this era because it is more authentically Prince than some other “lame” era, then it is meant for you. And since you are claiming that all you said is that you don’t like the picture, then, obviously, my comment is not a response to you. Is that simple enough for you, or do you need me to get you Hooked on Phonics?

My mother is proud of the fact that I can read whereas your mother should be ashamed that you are too simple to recognize that you accused me of something that I never said or did. But, I'm sure that those voices in your head cause you to do that often. Take care player.
