actually, it looks like the type of artwork used in a magazine article. And I bet that's closer to the truth than as album artwork. It looks too quickly thrown together by ANY fine artist to ever consider as work worthy of an album cover. I sincerely doubt that was ever considered by anyone as album cover art.

Prince commissioned legendary artist Neon Park to do him an album cover in the 80's. It's not clear which but possibly Roadhouse Garden.

Very cool, but do you mean Dream Factory? Roadhouse Garden wasn't an album concept until the late 90s, was it?

I was about to ask the same question. Militant knows his stuff so I'd rather go for a typo saying "80's" when he meant "90's". Militant, u in da house?

The artwork was never used but here it is.

If you're not familiar with Neon Park, he did album covers for Little Feat, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Dr. John and the Beach Boys, amongst others.

Did u notice that small bubble with "imposer! destroy!" written inside? Isn't it WEIRD??? eek eek eek eek eek eek

I didn't mean "Roadhouse Garden" the resurrected album concept from the late 90's. It wasn't Dream Factory either. To clarify, it's closer to what Vannormal was referring to - the songs recorded in June '84 that included "Roadhouse Garden", "All Day, All Night" and "Our Destiny". Post-Purple Rain, pre-ATWIAD. The artwork appears to date from late 1984.

Prince had a lot of concepts and ideas running through him at this time, most of which he also moved on from rather quickly. It appears that this was commissioned for a concept Prince had around this time which was to include Roadhouse Garden the song. My guess is a partially-realized album concept including the June songs and some of the earliest songs recorded for ATWIAD. The Family's album was written/recorded around this time, as was Mazarati's album, as was The Dance Electric, so it's possible that at one stage Prince had considered keeping some of the songs given to The Family, or 100MPH, or The Dance Electric.

It seems this was originally sent to Art Chantry (Graphic Designer for Nirvana, Hole, and many other bands from the Pacific Northwest) by Hugh Brown, who was the Art Director at Warner Bros Records at the time. Art posted it online, but Hugh asked him not to post the "salient details", remarking that it was a "kinda statute of limitations thing". Reading between the lines I'd wager that's an attempt to not get any hassle from Prince about this through posting information he may not want people to know. So, there's a story, hopefully we end up hearing some details from it sooner or later smile

Very interesting, I wasn't aware of a post-PR pre-ATWIAD album concept. Hopefully we get to know more about this someday. THX 4 the clarification smile

Did Neon Park ever say or stated something more about it ?

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

with the amount of music and good music at that, that they were cranking out from 1983-1986 I would be there were at least 5 album they could have put out along with the official releases.

Roadhouse Garden

Dance Electric

Manic Monday

All Day All Night

Our Destiny

Possessed

and a good other pieces woud have been a hot album

Feline

Screams of Passion

Nothing Compares 2 U

100MPH

Jerk Out

...

oh boy, the possibilities

The Bowie one is even worse. It looks like it was done by a school kid. The one by the Eels looks kinda appropriate for the tittle of the album.

lol lol It's funny how tastes diverge sometimes. I'm so in love with Reality's cover that it's been my laptop's background desktop for the last 2 months biggrin

I have a lithograph book of Rex Ray's art that someone gave me and I love his art. But the cover shows he should probably stick with the abstract art he is known and loved for. But hey, it's art. It's subjective and as long as someone finds joy in it then it's all good.
