Prince - So Fine, what the hell is this reminding me of?

Hello,

Happy Friday to the org.

This is doing my nut in. I've transferred loads of files onto my new Mac and I've come across some old numbers which I've been putting some heavy spin on all day.

One song in particular I can't stop playing.

So Fine. What on earth does that synth line remind me of? It's pretty certainly a big Prince number from later in the 80's. Anyone been listening recently and have similar thoughts? Is it a demo that turned into something bigger later on.

Happy bank holiday for UK orgers.

Sounds like you came across this legitimately.... not.

It reminds me a bit of Let's Work tbh.

This is an Andre Cymone track from the album Livin In The New Wave.

They sound amazingly similar at times, the synth reminds me a bit of something from a P song, maybe Head?

Why would you say that? I've had it from the IVault stuff for about 4 years??

I just haven't listened to it in a looong time.

Rude lol

I didn't even know it was an Andre track it's just listed under the year and title. I think it sounds more like Head than Let's work, but I'm not sure it's either of them that it's reminding me of.

Hey, I'm not sure. It's off the IVault which is only listed chronologically. It's under 1980 and just as 'So Fine', I don't know if it is a version by Prince or Andre? Quit possibly Andre as there's loads of random stuff on this collection. The quality drops quite heavily in the 90's neutral

It's very good. Groovy 80's synth funk. Wonder if it ever meant to have lyrics to match it up?

It's only the instrumental version of the track of the same name that's on André Cymone's first album Living In The New Wave, Prince has NOTHING to do with it and it is absolutely similar to the album version save the vocals.

This track, alongside an instrumental version of Trouble, from the same album, originally surfaced on the mythic Studio Nights collection of outtakes in 1995, wrongly credited to Prince. This collection also contained Suzie Lovelace, a BrownMark outtake that didn't contain any Prince involvement either.

Whoever possessed and released the Studio Nights and City Lights collection back then just put them in the mix, which was pretty cool save the absence of proper credit.

Cool,

That's that then. Wonder how it found its way onto this compilation? Trouble is on there too.

In fact there's over 500 tracks on it.

Probably those who compiled it believed it was Prince, or they didn't but included it just for fun because it's not like you have collections of André Cymone outtakes floating around to include these somewhere else lol

Living In The New Wave is a wonderful album by the way, get it if u like these 2 tracks!

Cheers db. Will definitely take a look at Living in the New Wave. I love the groove of these tracks. Bit ashamed to say I've never really looked into any of Andre's work. I think it's time!

Thanks for the info thumbs up!
