U would probably only listen once...............before u wish u hadn't.
You should broaden your musical horizons; Pearl Jam is one of the best rock bands out there. Regarding the cover, I dig it.

Very surprised.In a good way.
Yeah, kind of like D'Angelo's remake of Soundgarden's song "Black Hole Sun". I think it sounds just wunderful! I know Stone Gossard and he would probably get a big kick out of this version!
D'Angelo covered that... gotta hunt that down!
Plus You know Stone? COOL |

Unfortunately, Pearl Jam got lumped into the 'grunge' rock universe, much like Nirvana. But these bands, never fancied themselves as part of any one stylistic movement.
They all saw themselves (And see themselves) as rock bands. As a matter of fact, Pearl Jam's first album, of which even flow is on, was to them really an extension of American rock in the style of Niel Young. It's striipped down instrumentally consisting of just standard rock instruments, lacking violins, etc. But, the songs are not dirivitive like a nasty ass Creed song would be. Pearl Jam and Nirvana (especially Nirvana), took many of their ques from American 70s punk bands as well, though they incorporate guitar solos into their songs.
Prince no longer sings with the ferocity and emotional intensity that Vedder conveys live, so attempting a pearl Jam song for Prince would be like Rihanna trying to cover A demanding or intense Aguilera or Whitney Houston song.
Your comment riled me up a bit when I read it yesterday, so I came back to respond -
Grunge fuses elements of punk and heavy metal but is played at a slower pace and is often down tuned.
I agree Nirvana arn't really grunge - more punk, but Pearl Jam are grunge - look back through the family tree they formed initiall from the ashes of Green River one of the original grunge bands (Mark Arm going off to start Mudhoney) before recruiting Andrew Wood and forming Mother Love Bone and following his death picking up Eddie Vedder to then become Pearl Jam, who then colaborated with Soundgarden for Temple Of Dog (a tribitute album to Andrew Wood) and you can't say Soundgarden are not grunge. As for your comment about Neil Young - I wouold say the opposite - that he (playing many rock genres - like Prince does with pop/funk) has recorded some amazing grunge records, before it was even a genre. |

That's laughably naive - not even close, they were at least 5 years to late to claim that!
But yes Nirvana opened the door to these bands haveing more success than they may have done. |
