I really like CB, (except Ripopgodazippa)...

Just get rid of the remixes... the original versions are so much better, imho.

There were computer screens set up at the 2000 Celebration at Paisley, which offered song titles that fans could vote for, to be included on a CB Vol. II set, however, the second volume never happened.

Funny, I was listening to Crystal Ball (Disk 2) yesterday - hadn't heard it in a long time.

My faves are:

Crystal Ball

Acknowledge me

Hide the Bone

Calhoun Square

What's My Name

Good Love

Strays of the World

Days of Wild

PoomPoom

She Gave Her Angels

With all the online drama surrounding this set, I was happy I went to the store and got mine. I was disappointed some of my favorite outtakes (Rebirth of the Flesh, I Wonder, A Place In Heaven, Computer Blue (Hallway speech, whatever you call that version), etc) weren't on it, but it was a pretty good set.

I felt so bad for the fans waiting for their online orders to arrive when it had been out in stores for weeks.

It's Prince's hate of us in cd form. He puts out shitty remixes and refuses to put out the best outtakes just to fuck with us and he sells it to us for 50 bux.

Where's Moonbeam Levels, Extraloveable, Big Tall Wall, Purple Music, Schoolyard, Old Friends 4 Sale, There's Other's Here With Us, Donna, Make It Through The Storm, Cosmic Day, Do Yourself A Favour?

Thank God the Truth saved it.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Ha! Prince hates us in CD form! evillol

Maybe not quite, I think he was just being shrewd - saving the aces up his sleeve for later use, no use blowing his wad when no one was around to notice (1998). But yeah with the horrible editing, needless remixes, half-filled CDs and mish-mash of eras it was less than expected - let's not even touch the rest of it, those wounds are supposed to be healed!

purple hippies have been defending him with that quote 4 years!.........by the time they get released...hell b dead (he actually sed so on The View sumthin like "im not releasing them...but sum1 will release them when im gone") and by then no 1 will give a fuck......most of the hardcore will be in nursing homes suffering from dementia......and those tapes will have rotted away sad

Yeah I agree, just going on what his thought process then could have been in not putting the goodies on CB. We'll see though. Things change, people change their minds - especially Prince!

I always 4ort it would have been better 4 him........2 release "the vault" songs in collections like part 1, 2, 3, 4,..etc a part each year in those newpaper giveaways......make a big event of it....instead of those shitty albums like 20ten and Planet Earth........his fan base would be fucking huge!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't all the material fit on 2 CDs? (not including 'The Truth' and 'Kamasutra' of course).

Those were extremely perplexing days. He offered Kamasutra on his website only in tape form, but shipped it as an extra CD for one of the configurations of this set. shrug

I dislike the Cyrstal Ball set, and found it to be a quick money grab on his part. It was at the same time he was asking for members of his website to 'participate in an experiment' where fans would voluntarily send all their bootlegs to him. falloff

Then, he packages his own version of a bootleg compilation, and gives it to us (with better sound of course).

But, man was the track list crappy in places. He even admits in the notes on the retail version of the set that some of the songs (like Days of Wild) are not the 'best' versions that he had recorded. WTF?

And I didn't think 'The Truth' was much better. For an accoustic album, I had to sit through weird ass effects and sound samples in the mix...Prince couldn't leave well enough alone. Plus, the songs were merely ok.

Had Prince thrown songs like There's Others here with us, Rebirth of the Flesh, Cosmic Day, and Road House Garden material, it probably would have been a great set.

Prince was really starting to prove how much he disrespected his fans at that time. His trip to douchbagery heaven was being paved

well luckly i wasnt a fan at the time........so maybe thats why i aint got the grudges u much older fans have.......and what happened when they sent there bootleggs?.......did he keep his word?......i bet he neva haha

a release like this was always gonna miss out on a lot of good material,

he simply has too many good outtakes.

it was very weird, and disappointing to see about 6 songs on there that

were simply (bad) remixes and that the discs weren't filled with songs,

but had so much empty space on them.

the only way a prince outtakes release is going to work is if he decides

to release an anthology type set where a set of, say, 3 discs, covers a

particular period of his carreer. like 3 discs would cover roughly 3 or 4

albums.

he'd have to release about 5 sets of those 3 disc sets to cover most of

the cherished stuff that we've been longing for so long. done like this,

i wouldn't mind there being the occasional remix or alternat version or

even bside in the mix.

but to include remixes and especially "how u wanna b done" on CB I,

that was just an insult imo.

i am very happy with the crystal ball set though for the fact

that it collects most of the stuff that didn't end up on either

come or crystal ball. those are some great tracks.

and fcuz, it's very nice to have those 86 era tracks in good

quality, eventho some of them have been mixed horribly,

like moviestar with that jam of the year intro in the back confused

i'm not sure there is a difference actually. there might be, but since this set

was released i haven't listened to the 'original' bootleg anymore.
